No its not a ford motor the current motors in mazda cars are mostly if not all mazda motors. If it was a Ford motor it would have been the duratec 2.3L or the zetec 2.0L motor. Since the Pro bore stork ratio does not match either one of these It is Mazda pure and simple.
Even the new 2.3L in the Mazda 6 is not a ford. The duratec 2.3L motor does not use a Vct.
Also ford motors Rev and breath a lot better than the current mazda pro motors. Try test Driving a zx2 or a Zx3 even drive the newer ford rangers redline em and see what you think.

DUDe are you sniffing glue. A focus cannot get out of its way.
Stock focus run 16.8 in the quarter
svt focus 15.7 in the quarter
The escort zx2 with the mazda tranny
16.4 in the quarter
Oh the 2.3 motor is design and built by mazda for Ford Motor Company.
The 2.3 in the ranger, Mustang SVO, Thunderbird Turbo Coupe, mecuor/Ford of Europe,Pinto,Maverick, Mustang is not similar at all.

Thats interesting considering my zx2 went 16.1 all stock. Others have ran 15.7 all stock.
2.3L Duratech all aluminium block and head was designed with High rpms in mind in fact this has beeen tested reliably out to 8000rpms. Mazda added a new manufacturing proccess that allowed more motors to be made faster using and blow up type glove to handle the the engine while it was still hot to prevent cracking and warping.
Couple of other things as well but I need to go back and research them before I lay out missinformation.

It's amazing how much confusion there is over which engines are Ford and which are Mazda. The 2.3L is pure Mazda, although the versions in the US are actually assembled in Mexico. The current FSDE 2.0L in the gen3 Protege is also pure Mazda, no Ford influence at all. The only Ford engine in any Mazda in the 3.0 Duratec.

So how come the bore and the stroke ratios are different??? Why is it that one uses VCT and the other doesn't. Why is it the Ford one was released before the Mazda one. It may have been partly based on a Mazda design but the head flows better it takes higher Rpms better. hmmm I wonder what else is different??? In reality it was far more a Cosworth design than anything else. Look up Ford Cosworth motors in Europe.
Cossie KYB motors can take up to 400hp on stock internals. Better yet look up the Focus cosworth.
