Got my first windshield chip

Yep.. you guessed it.. during the drive yesterday.. ah well.. I knew it was coming.. and knew the windshield was crap before I bought the car...

It's just an itty bitty teeny tiny chip.. I have to be really close to the windshield to even see it.. but with winter coming.. and all the stories I've read about chips mutating on our windshields.. I'm thinking maybe I should just get it filled now?

So.. where in Edmonton is good to take it... and how much does it cost to get chips filled?

If it's pretty cheap I'll go that route for a while.. if not.. I do a lot of highway driving.. I'll just let it get wrecked and replace it with a better one..

shouldn't cost more than $25 for the first chip.

mine was done for $20. you can still see it but i doubt that it'll spiderweb.

Jep me too Dawn. I got a chip to and it cost me $22.36, or something crazy like that. I would suggest getting it done. It's $20, and you should have no problem with webbing during our winters.

Geez.. 25 bux.. now there's a scam if I ever heard of one.. that's more than I'm willing to pay for a small repair that will repeatedly need to be done... on a windshield that I will need to replace in the next few years anyways...

Think I'll buy a better windshield.. wish I would have done it before I got my tinting done..

Thanks for the info..
Dawn

My neighbour had a chip filled and it is still good after 5 years, no spider webs. As you may know, they inject some sort of resin between the outer layer and the glass itself. I have one to fix too and plan to do it before the winter.

I was more worried about my fogs than my windshield as I still have my protection to put on. Planned to do it before the drive but the weather kinda put a crimp in that idea.

I don't mean that the exact same spot will need to be repeatedly repaired.. I mean that my windshield is going to get chipped all over the place... not to mention the nice sandblasted effect it will likely have after a few winters..

I'm thinking maybe I should take it to some nice glass place and get them to look at it and tell me if it will spread.. anyone have any recommendation on a place that won't lie to me?

I believe it's all about probability now. If they tell you it'll spread will you get it done? If it spreads, with out you getting it done, then you either live with it or kick yourself in the ****. Your call. $20 or no $20?

well if you come down to Florida... you can get a new windshield installed for free (well.. insurance pays 100%).. and if you call the right place to do it - get a free box of 4 filet mignon steaks. Plus it doesnt have an effect on your rates . I have had 3 replaced in the past year on my cars.
