Rock Chip in Windshield! What to do?

The chip is small, but there is about a 1cm crack under it. I am afraid if I don't get it fixed it will crack more. What should I do?

1) Get the crack filled? How much is that? Does it last?

2) Let it crack and get a new windshield?

Opinions and options. I know some of you have done this so prices would help.

If you have insurance, it won't cost you anything to get the crack filled. Plus IF you do have to pay for it, it is still less than replacing the whole windshield and paying the deductible.

I just replaced my windshield yesterday. Trust me, you dont want to wait, cause it gets really big REALLY FAST. It was $300.00, but my deductible was $100, which isn't too bad. I would have payed a lot less myself w/out the insurance, just to get it filled.

my dedectable is $500 so I guess I should just get it filled. If getting it filled covered with no deductable or something?

Have the window guy come to you. My dime sized pock-mark turned into a GIANT unfixable spider-crack on the way to the shop.

Get that thing fixed ASAP. I just had an 8-inch crack in my windshield along the lower driver side corner that cracked all the way to the passenger side (luckily along the line of the wiper blades) when I hit a bump.

To get a new windshield it's gonna cost me $274.00 CDN or $300.00 CDN if I want to get one that has a tinted band along the top.

Damned winter!!!

Dude majority of the time insurance will not fix it. Mostly everyones deductibles are 500. That is the most common so you will have to fix it out of your pocket. But get it done asap.

That depends on the insurance company. My insurance company fixed mines twice this period. One was just to fill in a small crack and the other was when I replaced my entire windshield early this week.

It wouldn't hurt to ask them.

I guess I've been really lucky with these. My '99 has had 2 small chips for over a year with no spreading. I got a new good sized one earlier this week and hope it doesn't spread either. Incidently, my '87 323 had a good one that was fine until someone bashed in my windows last year....
