you've got to be kidding. Look up dodge caravan < 1995 and ford windstar any year and they are both torn apart for having shitty air. My parents have owned at least 4 american made cars and while they were not exactly the best cars on the block, the fact that the A/C blew out in all of them is what turned them away from american cars. I've had my protege for 4 years and the A/C still blows as cold as the day i got it. My bro has a 10 year old accord that just last week needed it's first recharge.

I seriously doubt the quality of japanese cars will ever be beaten by american cars in the same class.

my bro had a 95 civic bought brand new that never blew cold air. i have a protege bought brand new that doesn't blow cold air.
his 01 accord and 95 prelude are not cold either. maybe you should move farther south and then we'll see how your protege's a/c works j/k

man i think we both got hosed by bad models. I'd take in that Protege if it's still under warantee.

i go to college in tally but i live in Coral Springs, still it manages to be hotter here in the summer than SoFla sometimes.

i think you are right. actually, surprisingly, i had a rental sentra few weeks ago and the a/c was freezing. worked a lot better than in my pro i think and even my bro said how he liked the a/c in the sentra. i gave up on a/c, i drive without all the time. the car has more power that way especially when you got auto. i am not far from you at all, i am in pembroke pines. next time you are back in town, let me know and we'll love to see you at our club's meet.

As said before they are like comparing apples and oranges. Two totally different cars. Personal preference will make the final judgement. IMO, the only thing the mustang GT is better for is strait line acceleration over the V6 6. For every other comparison, i'd go for the 6. Handling, style, 4 doors, not many on the streets, gas milage, etc. Hell, i drove a 02' GT conv last summer off a ford lot and it was fast. I'd think the extra 2.x seconds to 60 or whatever speed is not worth all the other comparisons that the 6 would take over the stang.

If you are wanting to tune whatever you get the Mustang will be a much easier job and a lot more rewarding. Lots of suspension upgrades are available to help keep the back wheels on the pavement. Do you actually need the back seat? If not a Mustang GT would be a pretty good car to have. Insurance on both it and the 6 are going to be high (Mustang will probably be a little higher). I would just be waiting for something stupid to go wrong with the Mustang.

I think the original question was about a Mustang GT which leaves the 6cyl out of the equation. By the way, why ANYONE would buy a 6 cyl Mustang is baffling to me. The ONLY reason to get a 'stang is for the engine...that being the V-8. With the 6, you're left with a crappy car AND a mediocre engine.....AND lame styling. Get the Mazda 6 over the GT. Mustangs are crap. Fast crap. But crap nontheless.

I agree with BarryG. I had a mustang before I bought my P5, and I will never buy Ford again. It was fun to cruise with the top down, but it had a few hundred bucks worth of repairs every year, and the whole not blowing cold air thing. It could just be bad luck, but Im happy with Mazda. Id go with the 6.

I appreciate you seeing my point. But I should also point out that when I say Mustangs are crap, I'm not saying they're going to break down a lot and cost you a lot on repairs. It may be just the opposite. I know guys with fox body mustangs with well over 100k and the car has had minimal problems if any and still runs strong. Those engines are practically bulletproof.

I say the Mustangs are crap b/c they are a crappy driving experience due to crappy engineering. My Mustang GT was trouble free and and ran real strong but I was driving a cheap tank with a crude (albeit loud and strong) engine, cheap suspension, awful brakes and the car just didn't inspire confidence or feel like it had any smoothness or connection to the road. It felt cheap even with the huge engine. The new ones are the same. They're just a crappy driving experience. Once you get over the acceleration, you will see the light. And by then you're stuck with a piece of junk.

On the other side of the coin....... the Protege and the Mazda 6 are well engineered cars that use modern technology. They're the whole package. They inspire confidence and feel connected to the road, which makes you feel connected.

without the optional body kit, the 6 does not stand out either.
styling is personal preference. at least 60% of mustangs on the road are v6. not everybody cares about a v8, some do like its styling and its heritage. i think when mazda changes the name of the 6 to something else, mustang will still be a mustang.

Well then 60% of the Mustangs are a joke. Getting a mustang without a V-8 is like trying to trying to get drunk by drinking non-alcoholic beer.....there's no point. Driving a V6 stang and thinking you're part of any heritage is laughable. The only heritage would be that of making car payments. And yeah a Mustang will always be a Mustang: crap. Mazda can change models 100 times and they'd still make a better car than Ford. My 93 Protege DX was a better car back then than a new Mustang is now.
