Thinkin of buying a protege

My dad currently has a 2002 mazda protege EX. He has done some work here and there on it but mainly to make it handle better. I am an avid fan of street racing and want a car that can race fairly well. I dont want to be a follower and just go out and buy some pos civic and trick it out. I have a deep love of cars and of mazda. Can you guys give me some suggestions on what i should look into as to what type of protege i should consider. I am very fond of the protege EX but i was lookin into the mazda 6 or the new mazada speed turbor. I just want to make something very clear. Im not only looking for a car that can do well in the 1/4 mile, i want a machine that can handle great when just out for a sunday dirve on a nice rural road. Please give me ur thoguhts and input on this. By the way, My father and I will be attending the Kent falls meet in Conn. so i hope to talk with more of you about this there. Thanx guys

sorry to burst your bubble, but Proteges aren't designed to do that...

as a matter of fact none of the Mazdas are ever designed with 1/4 mile time in mind.... always been about handling, vehicle balance, and driving fun

Yes I understand that. Let me try to rephrase this, I want a car that handles very well, but can also be fast and powerful and sporty looking.

sounds like the Mazdaspeed (one word) Protege may be what you're looking for...

hmm yes but my question is, since it has a manufacutres turbor in it, if i replaced it with a more powerful turbo would i loose my waranty. Also would a blitz intercooler fit in a mazadaspeed?

you mess with the turbo you void the warranty.

if it's a front mount IC, it's gonna need to be a custom job. (this will also void your warranty)

I wouldn't mess with the turbo itself, Mazdaspeed should be coming out with a boost controller for the MSP soon.... keep an eye out for that....

you can always turn up the boost.... via the boost controller....

you probably want to test drive one before thinking about upgrading stuff...

Mazdaspeed has like 170 hp or so and handles on rails they sell for alittle shy over 20,000 if u can find one . As for power the motor isnt really built and i think it will hold like 12 psi at max prob around 210 hp, But im sure in the future they will make stronger internals for it ...Jon
