Buying a 91 Protege

I have been offered a 91 for $250. not sure what model, maybe LX. as it has sunroof A/C and body colour bumpers and mirrors

It needs Rad, Battery and muffler (probably some other exhaust parts too) I wont be able to hear it running until after I buy it

292,000Km body seems solid, surface rust only

questions:
what else should I be looking at to see if it is worth fixing
will flex pipe and catalytic converter from 94 323 fit
will the rad from a 90 323 or 92 escort GT fit
how hard is it to reattach the spoiler

thanks

------Rust, Collision damage that looks like you can't fix it.
start the car up , let it run , see if any discolored smoke comes out the rear.

will flex pipe and catalytic converter from 94 323 fit

----------i don't think so .. Sounds like you have a BP in their, I don't know if their are interchangeable...

will the rad from a 90 323 or 92 escort GT fit

-------------The Rad should fit up fine, but it will depend on if it is a auto or a 5spd , .... some holes on the auto will need to be pluged to work right.

how hard is it to reattach the spoiler

----------------simply bolt it back on , especially if the holes are already their ,,..
Or sand the trunk down lay fiberglass filler over the holes and then sand it down and paint it over ...

thanks

thanks for the info Bruce. Looks like I am going to pick it up, wont be able to hear the car running until I have done some work on it

Except for the MAZDA logos and the Protege 323 at the back, there is no other badging on the car. I still dont know what model this is. The VIN and door stickers dont help either.

The model type on the ownership is CPX (?) does anyone have any idea what model this is??

I bought the car. It was delivered (yes, delivered. $250 and the guy delivered it right to my driveway) late yesterday

Cleaned it all up inside and out, it had sat under a pine tree for 3 weeks and started working on it this morning.

I got it started. It feels strong, sounds good and wasnt blowing out funky coloured smoke. Tires, springs and brakes look great.
One strut rod is rusted right through, and the front sway bar isnt connected.

Last oil change and tune up was less than 3000Km ago and it has a full tank of gas.

It is far from perfect, and it will be a while before I can actually drive it, but so far it looks like I have all the parts I need sitting in my garage so my cost will be minimal

cpx is a protege lx cdn version.

you have the 1.8 sohc version of the car.

you should have a tach meter which would denote you having an lx model.

there is a webpage that lets you identify exactly what your model is, but i don't remember where it is.

i got my protege lx for $300. =)
