I'm buying a Protege

Hey everybody, I'm buying a Protege ES. I was wondering about the options though.

There is a auto-dimming mirror w/ compass and temperature gauge. Does anybody have any pics of how it looks and is this worth getting?

Also, Is the perimeter Shock Alarm any good?

I can get both options for about 170 each.

Silver but that isn't definate. I wouldn't mind any of the colors except that Seabreeze green mica and the sand mica. I don't think my parents would approve of me putting on performance parts. Of course they won't know if I did anything to the car while I'm away at college. :-)

Zero, from MY understanding, the auto dimming rear view mirror works with a light sensor that will tilt it automatically when someone is close enough be hind you to set it off...HOWEVER....have you thought about having your windows tinted? if so....depending on how dark it is...it can and will render your auto dimming rear view mirror useless...as unless someone is shining a q-beam through your back window it won't actuate....

as far as the compass.....do you REALLY think you need one to know what direction you are headed? and the temperature gage? after all...unless you got in your car from the garage...which was attached to the building you were in....you were outside at one point before you got in your car....its either cold....hot....or somewhere inbetwee....do you REALLY need to know EXACTLY what temp it is outside?

MY opinion.....these are frills....bells and whistles that NO ONE needs....but the dealer talks you into spending your hard earned money on just so you can say you have them..... Keep your money....spend it on something worthwhile. In other words.....its NOT worth getting.
