nitrous on a first gen??????

i know that venom makes a kit for the protege but it costs like $1000 dollars. My question is what company has a good kit you can use on a sohc first gen??? Also i heard that after a while the nitrous will mess up your car really bad . Is this true????

HEY 94DX PRO`

Hey Man! My Name is Mike D and I also have a 94DX Pro with the auto-tranny. I have actually been contemplating a 55 shot of Nitrous. I am probably going to opt for the ZEX kit (miata kit)because it is the least complicated to install and for the shot I want, I can rely on the stock computer to compensate for fuel etc... It is a dry set-up and that's fine for me.
I think people give the auto-tranny a bad rap. Yes I agree that it is more power robbing than it's 5 speed brethren...but it's not as dire as I think some would suggest. There are plenty automatics that run Nitrous. Don't let people sway you into thinking because you have an auto, that your car is that inferior.
I happen to run my car down the 1320 for fun and should be auto-x ready for the spring. The BIGGER concern for me than the auto-tranny being a "weakness", is the fact that the engine mounts are more susceptible to give out than the tranny. I am on my third set of engine mounts. I have 115,000 miles on the car and have been hard on it since the day I bought it. Mounts ($150 bucks at the local dealer) are cheaper to replace than clutches so I'll take that trade-off.
As some of these auto-crossers I'm sure would agree, the driver makes a bigger difference than the car (albeit the car undeniably helps). You just have to be realistic about what your goals are with the nitrous. If you want to run crazy timeslips it'll take more than Nitrous on your auto DX Pro. If your goal is to just occasionally hit the funny gas during a mid-night jaunt for some eats and surprise that NA civic in the next lane, your car will be fine with a modest shot. Just be sure that your car is WELL MAINTAINED and that you don't get speed greedy and go big on the 100 shot (without beefing up the tranny etc..) when the 50 shot loses it's appeal.

MD

Nitrous

Winter is about to set in here in Va. so I will probably get the nitrous as an X-mas gift to myself as well as some finishing suspension pieces (compass motorsports rear sway bar, strut tower bars ...). All the tracks are closed here now so I'll have some "project" time before the season starts up again in the spring. They do not make a kit specifically for the 1.8SOHC but the Miata engine does share enough of the same components that it should cross-over to the SOHC without to much problem. The compression on our cars is also rather low (8.9.1) so our engines should take a liking to the Nitrous.
A buddy of mine actually just bought the ZEX 65 shot kit for his SI Civic and thats what really swayed me. He picked the kit up for 516.00 shipped to his door. He was able to complete the install himself in 3 hours b/c it was so easy to install (they guarantee it is the easiest kit to install) Apparently some of the other Nitrous kits from NOS etc are quite a bit more involved. The end result was actually pretty incredible. The smile on our faces after running the SI sure does make you realize how much bang for the buck Nitrous is. Since the Miata is a rather common application, I expect the price to be around the 5-600 dollar range. I'll let you know what I find out about the cost.
I have to do something to keep up somewhat with my brothers. My bro Jeremy has done the complete Sport20 Conversion to his 3rd gen including the FS-ZE engine swap. His twin has a sleeper 95 Eclipse with a Hahn Race Craft Turbo kit. Time for me to step up to the plate with the funny gas.
