Some are custom designed for certain cars, but most aren't. I don't know of any custom kits for the protege, but the ZEX kit works and seems to be a good choice for $500. I know at least one person from ProtegeTech had this installed and liked it a lot.

Don't most of the dry systems have some means of providing more fuel also? I thought "wet" system meant direct injection of additional fuel to the intake manifold, as opposed to a "dry" system tricking the ECU to deliver more fuel through the injectors.

Anyone know the webpages for NOS or Zex. Sorry, I did really name that thread wrong. I really was asking about Nitrous & not NOS. I was just being lazy I knew NOS was a company all in itself.

actually its N2O not NO2. but anyways. a wet setup sprays fuel and nitrous, while a dry only sprays nitrous. what the other person was thinking about is a direct port set up. i'm a firm believer in wet setups.

If you buy a Nitrous system make sure you call the manufacturer for specific instructions for the set-up in your car. If you put to much nitrous and not enough fuel, something bad is going to happen. It could as simple as a blown head gasket or as bad as a melted piston or worst.

That's one of the nice things about the newer nitrous 'systems', especially ZEX. It comes with a control unit that uses our vacuum controlled fuel pressure regulator to provide more fuel through the stock fuel system. It's similar to having an adjustable fuel pressure regulator being controlled by the Nitrous system. The control unit also uses the voltage from the throttle position sensor to detect wide open throttle, so you don't need to mount any micro switches to activate the system. Makes for a much simpler install. Finally some of these new computerized emission control devices working to our advantage.

Hey Eric, Are you going to do anything to your car to prepare it for the nitrous? Do we need to do anything to our cars to prepare them for nitrous? Better gaskets maybe? I use my car as a daily driver and don't want to blow anything that can't be fixed in a matter of a couple of hours. Probably need to research this shiot before I install the ZEX on my car. Really don't know anything about engines yet. But I am willing to learn for sure. I want to get a turbo down the road, or maybe do the FS-ZE swap. Not sure yet, right now I just want to learn as much as I can about working on and tuning an engine. I wish I knew HALF as much about them as you and Jesse(PseudoRealityX)

I learned something from my Prowler club that might be interesting for you guys looking at adding nitrous. Check this link from Prowler Pro about their system. Click Here They compare a wet and dry system and their pros and cons. Also try Venom, I do not think they got a computerized nitrous system for the Proteges but if we push they could (dam PT Cruiser got one).

The Venom has a computerized keypad that lets you adjust how much gas you shoot, without changing jets (all the way to 100%). It piggy backs to the car computer and adjust fuel accordingly. If its looks you want the change the bottle for a chrome one or a carbon fiber remember the bottles actually come from hospital suppliers and customized.

The one thing I plan to do before using the ZEX kit is install my Autometer air/fuel gauge. Then, I'll start with the smallest N20 needle supplied with the kit. 55HP I think. Watch the A/F gauge closely the first several times using the N2O, then as I get confident the engine isn't running lean on the N2O, I'll move to the next size needle.
The Venom N2O kit is awesome, and better than the ZEX kit. It should be, it costs 3 times as much as we're getting the ZEX kit for. It allows releasing the N2O in stages, at different throttle positions. This produces more linear power like a super charger or well sized turbo system. The bottle doesn't last as long since you'll be using it more often though.
