I think I had a similar conversation on IM with braden before. I was shocked when he said he was going to run 25psi through the engine to see what it did, but he explained to my feeble n00b mind the method to his madness. Braden is a smart guy. I'm not jumping on you, turbo1g, I'm sure you have a fast car, I just know that braden knows a lot, I've learned not to question him, hahaha....

ok real stupid question, what does poweder coating do? is it just an apearence mod like painting the pipes? just wondering

oh and braden, are the pipes aluminum? and what is the word with getting the filter wet? like if you are driving down the road and hit a poudle, is the firlter protected from the splash, or what? the reason i am asking is because a friend of mine had a car that had a leaky airbox on it, and every time he hit a poudle the car would die. just wondering if we needed to know that so we can try to avoid them.

Hi guys:
I couldn't help to read such a dumb post, i had to register to voice my opinion.
Turboge, do you actually know anything about turbos? Me and my friends have tons of fast volkswagens that run T04B housings, one runs 10.8 on a straight T04B w/60-1 wheel@16psi of boost, the other runs 11.3 with the same turbo, and then there's a couple that run 12.2, but that's besides the point.
Yes, the To4B compressor is old technology, but it's made to create tons of hp at lower boost, why should you run an IHI turbo at 30psi and flow nothing but hot air while putting that much pressure on a stock motor? Even a junkyard T3 turbo will easily outflow an IHI, trust me when i say this because i speak from experience. My gti with a 60 trim T3 from a single turbo 300zx ran 13.8 on street tires and full weight, 13.8@105mph, not to mention the 10psi of boost.
I'd suggest for you to learn how to read a compressor map, IHI's just can't flow enough air to produce that much hp.
BTW, I happen to know turbo 1g, I guarantee you that once his new turbo goes in (and that's gonna be real soon) he'll run low 12's easy.
Don't forget that haters go nowhere, but if you're willing to learn I might actually come back and talk tech with you guys.
Thank you for your time.

He's a professional mechanic as well, i'd suggest for you not to post since you don't seem to know what you're talking about, it makes you look really dumb.

You can push 1psi through a 1mm straw and flow almost nothing, then you can push 1psi though and 1Inch straw and flow 1000 times more air, is this simple enough for you to understand? IHI's are just little straws, just like the KKK K-03 that the new 1.8t audi/vw motors come with.
PS, i welcome any good info to be replied
cheers
Paul

No, you've missed the point, i no longer have that setup that went 13.8@105 on street tires, i now have a T3/T04B that hangs with my buddy's 12.2 car, that's wassup.

I hope they close this post soon. Facts and proof are what we believe, not talk.

Fact is that I invite you to come and run my car or my friend's cars, all got a T04B compressor side on them, be it a straight T04B or a T3/T04B, I guarantee you that the slowest one goes low 12's.
You can argue looks, you can't argue times and hp. Time for the BS to stop.

ok first i want to say I am NOT mechanic and i make no claims to be, but from the cars that i have worked on and friends of mine, isn't the whole "which turbo" thing kinda up to the car?

Like if a turbo is designed for a certain engine, or kind of engine, such as a 6 compared to one that is designed to a 4 is going to act differently with the two different engines.

so maybe the TO4b is better for the VW but by the same note, have you ever tried to run a TO4b on a Pro compared to a TO4e?

i am not taking anything away from you killa and i believe you when you say that you are a mechanic with a good amount of experience, but i can also say that from the emails braden has sent me, and everything he has said and done, so is he

just remember what works for one, does not work for all

Im nor saying that to4e is a bad turbo but i think i rather have turbo that flows more air at lower boost.

Yes, I'm from New Jersey. I welcome your challange since I get along with any motorhead, I just can't stand people that don't know what they're talking about and act like they do.

Did Braden attack turbo1g OR you??? NO. He simply stated HIS OPINION even after turbo1g questioned him about his choice of turbo; for that matter turbo1g didn't attack Braden....

and yet you come on here tearing into him about his knowing 'nuthin'!?! and you say the above????

come on....you BOTH have different opinions, experience, and knowledge with different setups.
i have NO idea about which turbo is better - sounds like you guys have a point - but Braden does too....maybe he's gone the way he has because the turbo is newer and perhaps he'schecking out HOW MUCH PSI our motors can handle STOCK.

I understand where you're coming from, but you must understand that an IHI turbo@30psi just throws out hot *** air, it loses a lot of compressor efficiency. I KNOW that the IHI is not the way to go, not just me but the people at turbonetics as well, but if you want a better opinion call TheTurboGuy in Farmingdale NY, they used to be known as "Blue Ribbon" and the old man knows his stuff. Put it this way, he's been in the turbo biz so long that he used to build turbonetic's turbos. It's not just me, but deep down inside i think that turboge knows that IHI's are crap as well. Turboge is right when he says that T04E turbo has better technology than the T04B, but the T04B's outflow the T04E's at lower boost, so if you're gonna run high boost then go with the T04E, if now go with the T04B.
