Road noise with audio

Hey guys, I own a 2005 MS3 and am getting a little tired of the factory sound system. I'm considering upgrading the speakers, but notice I need to turn up the volume quite a bit when on the highway. Because of that, I was considering lining the doors with a vibration dampener like Dynamat or Hushmat. Anyone out there have any experience with these or similar products? Would most likely get higher-quality Infinity speakers so don't want the quality getting sucked up by noise.

Also, has anyone connected an aftermarket amp to the factory stereo? I don't mind replacing the head unit, but would rather keep the factory look. Thanks for you input!

Either one will work comparatively.
