Well, instead of starting a new thread, I've decided to drag this old one back up. Yesterday I ordered a new Pioneer DEH7400. I was going to get the Blau, but I decided that this one looks much nicer, I already know how to use it, and I love my old Pioneer deck. Oh yea, it also has an 'analog' **** for the volume. Gotta love that! I got it for $250 at www.thezeb.com it's the one that plays MP3s, it's the cheapest I've found it on the internet. I ordered my wiring harness and install kit from sound domain. Hopefully I'll be getting it soon!

Pioneer/ Premier hardware is great stuff, you will be happy. The 7400 is a rock solid performer. I have dealt with the zeb before, they are good folks. The only limitation they seem to have is that you can only get what they display on the web, so certain models you might want are just not in thier reach. But if they do have what you want, it is usually a great deal!

Yea, the zeb seemed to be really good. I ordered it tuesday, and it's being delivered at my house tomorrow. I think that's pretty damn good coming from NC to PA.
Strangely enough, ever since I ordered the new head unit, mine has been working perfectly (after not working AT ALL). Oh well, I'll just have two working cd players then...
My installation kit and wiring harness will be coming the 6th, but I don't absolutely need them to hook it up. I already have a wiring harness, but I thought I'd play it safe and get another one. It's only $4 : ) And as for the installation kit, I already have one, it's just missing a peice to it... I'll deal for a few days I guess.
I'm fighting the urge to order two more 6.5s and an amp, we'll see how long I can hold out. Right now I just have two kenwood 6.5s in the front doors and it sounds ok. It would sound much better amped with two more speakers in the back, but that's another $300 I don't need to spend.

Funkdaddysmack-
Its been stated many times, car audio is addictive. Its hard to stop once you start.
I actually have the same HU as you. Its great... time between MP3 tracks is a bit on the long side but I dont listen to MP3s in my car. Whats the point of getting a good system if your just going to limit it with the quality of your tracks. If ever the constant switching of the colors on the screen bugs you.(It drove me crazy) I have a solution for it that is not in the manual.

yeah, it's the same way you take care of the blinking time on your VCR.... electrical tape!

Actually there is a real solution. Turn off the head unit. Press the 6 button. And then press 5. Turn your HU back on and admire the constant contrast.

Well, I installed the headunit on Friday, had no problems at all. Thanks for the tip, SedanMan. I hate when it changes the contrast for no reason at all (like ever 30 seconds or so), so I did that trick you said and now i'm happy as can be!
The animations are pretty cool, but they aren't really good for anything. I keep mine on the cd info screen which is just a clock, and the track #, and track time. Boring, yet effective.
I'm loving the volume ****, no more volume up/down buttons for me! Overall I'm really happy. Sometimes it takes a while to read the cd when I start my car, but it's usually pretty good. It's nice to have music in my car again!
