Help me decide on a sub& combo!

Just an idea, but some places (like www.partsexpress) have terminal cups that have bus bars. You can have one terminal but have the options of using the bars to put them in parallel or remove the bars and you have the voice coils on separate plugs. I used them on my adire tempest which is my DVC home audio sub. works nice looks good and it was like 4 or 5 bucks I think. I tried to get the link for you but the site was down. Just go to parts express website and go to speaker building. You will find them.
Blue keeps suggesting the idea of using liquid nails on his box. I also did that. It works good. I have done that with about 3 boxs. I put the baffle on last so I can sand down all the edges on the boxs which makes sure that the baffle seals very tight. I also put liquid nails in the inside of the box in the corners.
If you decide to put carpet on the box I always use 3M supper 77 spray adhisive (or some other spray adhisive). It works good to hold the carpet on. I tried glue once. Dont go there!
Good luck

I already got two tubes of Liquid Nails.
What baffle?
I also have that 3M stuff. I bought it two weeks ago when I was "brown breading" my car. I never used the 3M can though...
Those terminals with bars are an excellent idea! I'm gonna get one of those instead of buying two identical terminals.

By the baffle I just meant the board that has the hole in it for you sub. But after looking back at the pictures of your box it is going to be on the inside of the side panels. I usually put mine on the outside over the side panels and just make sure that it is the same height all the way around before I lay the last board on. It is just a difference in designs. No big deal. Sorry about the confusion
Yeah, I really like my speaker terminal like that ( I used the same one). You can use the bars for parallel or you can use a wire to put them in series. Good luck with your box. Looks good so far.

Honestly , i did not read through most of the posts in here. But I just figured I would respond with what I have noticed with my previous systems, being as we have the same car...
I don't listen to rock .. I usually listen to Rap/Reggae on a frequent and on fun days Techno... so you know bass is a part of me....
anyway I have found that sealed boxes work really good with our 2nd gen proteges .. unstuffed or stuffed ,, the bass was usually tight/loud and focused enough that people in cars in front and beside me would turn around. I used to have 2 10" mtx3000 woofers and for this being a bottom of the line woofer and not haveing all the power in the world and being pushed by a DEI audio amp ... it sounded great... I would say if your not concerned with weight and want the bass. 2 10" woofers or even 2 12" woofers.. in a sealed box.
I know there are people out there that had their results with a single sub and it works for them in the Pro. but in my 2nd gen ...It never sounded right . The bass was ok , but just not that out of car/I hear you coming type of thing....
just my 2cents

All I want is bass that I can enjoy. I have a 6.5" Klipsch sub here at home and it annoys my mother 3 rooms away... My bet is that a 12" eD sub in a ported box will be more than enough for my needs. I'll have the sub and the amp soon enough (hopefully tomorrow).
I'm still working on the box...
I have to buy power cables for the amp and run them to the trunk...
After that I think I'm gonna be set for a test and I don't think I'm gonna be disappointed.

my sub will be here today, I wanna try it as soon as I possibly can!

Bruce95fmla, trust me when i say a well designed ported box will blow away any sealed box sealed you have no room to really tune it. and prefab ported boxes almost always sound like ***. however a properly designed ported box will get a single sub as loud or louder than 2 subs in a sealed box, and the sealed subs will need more power which = spending more on a second sub, more on a bigger amp, and more space taken up by the box

the box went straight across with about 3 or 4 inches of room on the sides and was about in the middle of the 6x9 speaker magnets.
it was a small sealed box, sounded really good and played loud as hell. I have to admit though the ported and bandpass boxes I previously had were crap .. sounded iffy and the bass was not solid...
I am planning to do two 12" woofers in the Protege kickers Comp VR's ... but I may just kdo 1 comp VR .. as I already have a 12 in my closet... I just need to make or have another box made.
I really really really miss my bass..

Blue, you mentioned designing a box for an Elemental Designs "K" series sub for a friend of yours. What kind of box are you designing? Just curious because I am thinking of using 1-12" ED sub versus my two together. It's either both in a ported box or one in a bandpass. Which would be louder? I never was a bass head, but after having my previous set up and the similar set up now, I really like cranking out the tunes. Too much bass? That is why I can fold the seat down and adjust the output on the crossover when desired.

I was looking in to a pair of Kicker VRs and JL W3s, but went with the ED's instead and am very pleased. They are very close to my SPL12s that I had previously which were $400 plus a pair (a lot for back then in mid 90's). If you had your sub in a 6th order box you could do some serious damage. They do have a higher XMax than the VRs and JL W3s. XMax is equivalent to cone excursion. Did you get your sub in yet? The rubber surrounds are huge! The woofer itself looks little like carbon fiber from a distance. You'll be pleased trust me!
