Updated CF hood info

I talked to MHP yesterday and it looks like we are looking at 600.00 for the hoods shipped in the US. Thats 475.00 for the hood & 125.00 shipped (they've got to have it shipped via freightways due to the size). If there are any of you in the same vicinity that could get one shipment, it would probably be cheaper overall (say there are 3 people in one city that would be willing to get 1 shipment with all 3, the shipping may only be 125.00 for all 3 hoods saving each of you a bunch!!) So, those of you interested in ordering the hoods, please e-mail me. I need 10 hoods to get them made (and a slightly cheaper price). Im going to see if I can get a better price if we get more people (assuming more than 10 people are interested). This hood I know will fit the MP5, MP3, & 2001 Protege. Some of the 99 & 2000ers will have to tell me if its the same hood. E-mail with any questions. I hope we can get 10 people together to get these. I know I've seen alot of interest in it.

about the 99-00 hood

the 99-00 hoods are different than the mp3, 01, and P5 hoods. basically, it won't fit. Let's see how many people are interested in a 99-00 CF hood also. Please replly.

Jeremy, I'm still very interested in a CF hood for my 2000 Pro. Especially if it's from Fiber Images.

Talking I just Emailed fiber images about a '99/'00 CF hood!!!

Now we need some people to get in line to buy these things (that is, if fiber images agrees to make them). Right now there are only a measly 3 people (Jeremy D, Eric F, and I). We'll probably need more support than that. I'll post fiber images reply as soon as I receive it, which SHOULD include a price. If this doesn't work out, we may be able to fall back on tripoint engineering but, I need to know if it's kevlar weave and not polyester.

I'm not sure if we'll have a color selection but, this is from www.fiberimages.com:

"The CARBON KEVLAR comes in yellow/black, navy blue/black, torquoise blue/black, red/black, orange/black and green/black."

I'd be very interested in a carbon fiber food.. it'll be a couple weeks till I could have money like that though. but with the money I would definitely buy it. I'm a little tight for cash because I just ordered the pakfeifer side skirts from their 323bj kit and I need the money for that COD when I pick them up in under a week, and customs (I KNOW!) will be a b***h..

hehe.

Alright, I've got both MHP & TriPoint engineering willing to make up CF hoods for us. About the same price for each (really, the only difference would be in shipping if there is any). Im still checking out Fiber Images. I would like to know our options before we do the finalization. Anyone with a view on who they think would be better (TriPoint, Mad House Productions, or Fiber Images) please post.

I posted this as a seperate thread but just in case. Im working with MHP & TriPoint & maybe Fiber Images to making CF Hoods for us (depends on who we decide to go with & the price) TriPoint & MHP are going to be probably 475.00 & shipping (shipping will be around 125.00 depending on your location & will be shipped freight collect so you pay the freight when it comes to you). As soon as I get more info from each company, I'll post it.

include us 99/00 proteges too please

I know we have a different style but, try to see if they'll make one for us also. Maybe we can get a combined low rate. Also, fiber images stress testing video impressed a LOT of people on here. They'd be my first choice, depending on price

just making sure.. these hoods would have cutouts for the windshield splashers.. right? thats a must!

thought about that in my sleep last night!

but seriously.. there's probably enough people to do half an half 99-00/01-02.. hoods.. I'll def buy a 99-00 hood in November if it goes on stock latches and has windshield splashers built in.

I'll buy a Fiber Images produced carbon fiber hood for the '99-'00 as soon as they produce it.

Carbonfiber hoods

Just got this from the guys at Tri-point

Tri-Point Engineering now offers Carbon Fiber Hoods for the new Protege and Protege 5. These hoods bolt on with stock hardware and look great. If any of your members are intrested please pass it along. The cost of the hood is $475.00 racer net and with a group purchase we could work-out a great deal on shipping since these have to go by truck.

We will also be coming out with a complete line of Koni suspension/clutch & flywheel ect.

Their email is tripointen@aol.com

Thumbs down

What's the big attraction ? The things dont help performance at all, if I'm going to dump $475-500 on the car I could get decent rims, or performace parts. Why is this hood such a big deal ?
Besides the weight ?

Am I nuts ?

weight does make a difference in performance, but in the case of the CF hood, its mainly the look that people are after. hell i people wanted it for performance they would paint in when they put it on. or just get a fiberglass hood.

Actually, I do want it for weight reduction and I plan on painting it when I get one. Fiberglass and aluminum aren't nearly as strong or durable. Carbon fiber won't crack as easily as fiberglass or dent as easily as aluminum. Check out Fiber Images videos on the durability of there hoods before you pass judgement. http://www.fiberimages.com/main.htm
