car subwoofer to home stereo?

car subwoofer to home stereo?
this may be a dumb question but here goes.... can i take a sub box meant for a car and hook it up to my home stereo? bare wire is twisted onto the connectors on the box but the home stereo needs an audio/video cable so i'm thinking not.... or can i?
