Talking Subwoofer in MZ3 Possible?

I was lookin into buying a 10 inch Infinity sub for my Mazda 3 Hatchback and was wondering if it would even be possible to hook it up to the OEM reciever. I had a circuit city audio guy tell me it is not possible but I had a friend hook up a sub to his stock integra. I do not know the specifics of how he hooked it up but maybe some of you can share how it's done. Can someome please correct me if I'm wrong and that this guy at circuit city is just a high school drop out?

It can be done but requires alot of work, I'll be adding one to my 3 sport gt in a month or so when the new 2004 rockford line comes out. It requires the use of a "line output converter" that basically converts the speaker outputs into line level outputs that you can plug into your sub amp. Or most amps already have speaker level inputs so you can tap your existing speaker wires to run the amp.

I'm Having a pair of 10's installed this week. I wanted to keep the stock deck, so we utilized a high quality line converter (converts Speaker out to line in on the amp. I'm also installing the speakers under a new floor in a custom enclosure, (removing the original trunk material and plastic) to hide the speakers and still leave tons of space.

It isn't that difficult really. And the guys at Circuit City are either lazy or stupid for telling him it couldn't be done. Depending on what he uses it can be a 1 hour job. A lot of subwoofer amps have built in line conveters for pulling a signal directly from the speaker and usually have an auto-on feature also so you need not worry about if the factory head unit can control turning the amp on and off.

Something easy to supplement the factory system is an Infinity Basslink. Just pull power to the battery, ground it and connect the signal lines to the factory speaker wires. For the size and price of it, it's a pretty decent setup.
