I am sorry to chim in so late, but I just this past week traded my JL audio 12w3's in for a Sub made by Dayton Audio. I was a die hard JL fan untill I heard My friends 12 that was kicking my 2 12s ***. He introduced me to the local dealer. Now I have one 12 in a much smaller box that pounds hard.

I see the Daytona has an XMax of 15mm which is really good. The EDesigns is slightly higher at 17mm I think. I don't know off hand what the JL Audio's W3 is at.
As far as which "K" series, I would go for a DVC sub so that you can run both coils at a 2ohm load and get the most of your amp that you will get. Almost all are 2 ohm stable. In my case, my amp is able to handle 1/2 ohm load, but it's also comes at a hefty price of well over $600 retail. (I didn't pay that new thanks to dealer accomodation, I was able to get it at 60% below retail price, otherwise, forget about affording the amp that I own). Alpine makes a decent mono amp design for subs. JL as well, but I am not sure what those will run you. The Alpine is probably less expensive and still good ****. In fact, Crutchfield sells them for around $200 I believe, but don't quote me on that. When looking for a good amp, look at the power bridged at 2ohms RMS or continuous, don't look at maximum power because it is rated at max power for 1 milisecond which doesn't mean dick when you listen to it at certain levels on a daily basis, not for 1 sec or milisecond. I know Kenwood makes mono amp, but you can get the same power from an Alpine for the same price. Personally, I like Alpine over Kenwood amps. I hear of other people talking about Adire audio, but can't tell you any thing one way or the other since I don't own one nor come across any one who does to listen to them, but they are supposed to be good amps. You may want to start a new thread about a good bass amp in your price range and you will get a lot of suggestions where you can start researching and narrowing down the choices. Hope this helps!

That is a lot of power for only $199 and any thing Alpine makes is good stuff.

US Acoustics USX 800D: $237 Shipped, 600x1@2 ohm, Class D, 3-year warranty.
or
JBL bP600.1: $214 Shipped, 600x1@2 ohm, Class D amp.
For a box, You can spend some $$ and get a custom box built or build one yourself or buy a prefab one. Building it yourself or having it built will yield the best results. It all depends on how much you want to spend and how much room you want to take up.

For pre-fab boxes, the "Raptor" line available at www.ikesound.com are very good - scroll to "Raptor" in the left frame of the website.
They are made from MDF (NOT particleboard!) and all the seams are sealed well. The prices are decent (and include shipping). Definitely one of the better pre-fab boxes I've seen. I got one for my wife, and was pretty impressed with the quality - all I had to do was silicone the terminal cup in place (it was a little loose). They're are a good way to go if you don't want to or can't build your own enclosure.

Hiho - which box did you get? I am going with a single sub and they do not seem to have a single sub enclosure(the one they call dual bandpass). Also I am not sure what the diff is between:
double wedge
hatch
bandpass

Mister T has pointed to me to what seems to be a good amp with some functionality, and then Rider linked to ac ouple others that were in the price range without the extra features. What I am wondering is if the extra functions means I am giving up something in sound power or quality. Plus the US Acoustics and the JBl seem to have a higher wattage output to one spaeker while the pioneer is higher to 2 speakers. Not making much sense!

Stay away from the bandpass enclosures - they are like ported boxes, but ported and bandpass boxes must be built to spec for the particular sub being used. Pre-fab is a big no-no.
I bought the single 10" hatch box for my wife's truck.

After looking over the Alpine and the US Acoustics again, I think I would recommend the USX600D instead of the 800D for your application. Crutchfield has this amp for $141 shipped.
This amp has 375x1 @ 2¿ @ 12.9V, the Alpine has 350 at 14.4V. So under normal conditions, you will not get the 350 from the Alpine, but will probably get more like 400-425 from the US Acoustics. Distortion is only 0.015% at power to Alpine's 1.0%.
US Acoustics also has a remote Bass level controller. They both have built in crossovers. The US Acoustics is smaller. The US Acoustics has a 3-Year warranty to Alpine's 1-Year. So, either amp will fill the bill, but if it was my choice, I would save the $70 (shipped price) and use it to get good wiring for the amp, or put it towards your box!

And second - you think that **** is gonna fly? Hell no. She already came to me with preliminary plans for FOUR 10's in the back of her Jeep!
I think we'll probably do just two - but fiberglass is definitely in her near future. Lucky for me, she enjoys working with it and will probably do a good portion of the work .And for pre-fab boxes, those Raptor ones from Ikesound are rather well-built.

Why the hell would you move off this overcrowded (in spots), traffic-plagued, expensive, attitude-driven Island?
I love it here though - close to the city, lots to do, and water is never more than a 10-15 minute drive.
Where are you in Florida? I've got relatives all over the southern part of the state from Lauderdale to Boca and Boynton.

I'm living in a place called "Coconut Creek". First time I heard the name I thought it was a joke....and now that I live here I know it is. Its in between pompano beach and coral springs.
As to why I would leave Long Island....well, having grown up there it was great till i was 12 years old. I spent the next 5 years in abject boredom till I graduated from high school and ran like hell. Sometimes I miss New York so i go visit grandma in brooklyn. I would probably live there if it was not overcrowded, expensive and attitude driven with freezing winters and boiling summers.
Down here its all of the above without the freezing winters....oh and without any trace of culture.

HH, it's cool your wife digs car audio and gets in to building stuff too! My ex used to roll her eyes and have me turn it down all the time. I even got **** for her car, expensive radar detector, Alpine alarm, to name a couple. She never wanted her stock system upgraded or replaced nor even a single sub added for a little more bottom end. Come to think of it, she didn't approve any thing I did or liked, and it wasn't like I was going to strip clubs and screwing other girls behind her back. I had opportunities, but remained faithful. It just pisses me off when I found out she did twice <which I find out after the divorce>. Oh well, live and learn.
