Question Best Bang for your buck Subwoofer

Okay, I now have two very heavy paper weights (SoundStream SPL12s) that are virtually useless. I can either have them rebuild, but they are outdated by several years, or buy a new pair of 12's. What are some good subs in the $200-300 range (per pair, I am not Donald Trump by no means!)? I know a lot of systems use JL Audio and am thinking of the W3's or Kicker Comp VR series, or perhaps something different entirely. They can be single or dual voice coil subs (but preferably nothing lower than a 4 ohm DVC). Okay guys, don't let me down. If I get them and they suck, I will hunt each and every one of you!!! HA! Seriously, any unbiased input would be great. SoundStream is great, but too pricey for my budget!

is this what you have in your car? I just emailed them because they recommend a box (sealed) at 1.0 cubic inches and the one I have is 1.25 cubic inches. Also, I can't seem to be able to find good reviews on subs in the price range. I searched Car Audio Mag's web site. Their magazine used to have reviews for various priced components. Thanks for your help!

Well, They begin shipping June 1st, but I have had the earlier K series model and it pounded. I am getting one of the new models. More than enough for my Protege5 and it was just one woofer. I cannot image what two would be like. They are excellent woofers. SOme other good brands are the JL Audio, Infinity, Brahma (A bit more expensive) to name a few.

Check out Carsound.com for alot of good info on anything car audio.

What do the W3's run around? Even the W0's were good when they first came out (as an entry level sub). JL Audio's website doesn't list retail on their stuff. Also, I know there aren't any dealers online. The place where I used to work sells them, but I hate going in there. They are the most honest place in town. That is one reason why I used to work there. Thanks!

I actually read up on some things recently on Elemental Designs. They aren't as well known as some manufacturers, but they sound like a good company. I also see they carry a 3 year warranty on their products. Also, Kicker Comp VR's are supposed to be their baddest oval speakers ever made. They can take a lot of abuse (other than distortion of course). They are more pricey than the Elementals though. I had their Competition series 10" subs when they first came out. Wow, they used to be the bomb. Now there are so many good manufacturers out there. Makes it more confusing however.

i have dual 12's.
way to much bass for a p5.
whenever i can muster the strength to pull away from my fusions, i will run my dual edesign's e10kd2's, which are sitting in my hallway.

but for u:

-kicker comp vr's (spl)
-fusion powerplants (spl)
-jl audio w3 (sql)
-edesign k series (sql)

all the above listed subs are in the same price range which shouldn't bust ur wallet. what are ur system goals? spl? sq? sql?

yeah, i can't find the strength to pull away...these subs are really good. AND, there is a guy who is gonna sell me two jonah amps for $625 shipped... well, i can only afford one at this time, the jonah lomu comps were just released recently, so i'll be picking up a set of those...

looks like my new systems will have to wait awhile...
how do u like ur brahma?

fusion's site sux.
jonah amps put out about 1500wrms @2ohms(benched i believe), according to the guy selling 'em. he uses them in comps, has 4, i want 2.
the jonah lomu components: actually, on pre-release, i heard the jonah comp's are supposed to be up with focals and such, which is why they kept pushing the date further and further back. but the guy with the jonah amps had a set on order, and just got them in last week. says it's a sweet comp set.

i want one now.
anyone here surprised?

i will own a brahma one day. looking at owning all these:
13w7, e15a, ba15, brahma15...

I have always been one for sound quality, but when you pull up next to a knuckle head blasting his Sparkomatic system with Kraco subs, you just want to look over and turn up the volume and shake him off his seat! So the SPL is equally important. My Boston's and SoundStream midbass can keep up with a VERY loud set of 12s (now something like the JL Audio W7's I don't know). I think the Elementals may be right up my alley.

I once found a home amplifier which wasn't popular as other products (i.e. Sony, NAD, etc.), but the sound quality blew them all out of the way. It was within the price range you might expect to pay for a top name, lower power amp, and it didn't even advertise any of their stuff. The company is Audire and the amp is the Crescendo. Man is that a nice amp. Although I don't use it in my current set up at home, I still have it. It's black with handles in the front and a huge power switch (that looks like some thing in a power breaker box) to turn it on.

Well, That Adire Audio company you speak of is the same one who makes the Brahma woofer that is very highly regarded even though it is not a "Name" brand. I have the Elemental Design woofer, but If I had more money I would get the Adire Brahma.
