Audiobahn amp for a Perfect 12.1D sub
K so here's teh deal...I changed out the speakers, so now I've got Kappa 5x7 in teh front, 6.5s in the rear, all powered by Audiobahn A4601Q. So now that I'm on the upgrading virus, I'm looking into a sub and have basically decided on an Infinity Perfect 12.1D, so a sub with dual voice-coils.
K so now I'm trying to find a good amp to power this thing, preferably Audiobahn. I'm looking at the A2601T, which puts out these numbers:
150 watts x 2 @ 4 ohms stereo
420 watts x 1 @ 4 ohms mono
Obviously I'll have it bridged for the single sub, but I don't know if I could get away with a little less power (like the A2401T instead of hte A2601T).
Anyway, I appreciate any advice you guys shoot my way,
nsx

looking at the specs of the 12.1D online, it looks like it is a dual 4 ohm voice coils... That equates to either 2 ohm or 8 ohm total load. Make sure that the amp you are looking at can mach these loads, or get two of the speakers and wire them up for a total of 4 ohms (but then you will need a larger amp)

Actually I kinda decided to stick with the single voice coil sub, so the Infinity Perfect 12.1, not the 12.1D. Also, decided to stick with a smaller amp, since at 4 ohms, I'll need to push around 300 watts into that impedance, not 400+, so I'm looking at Audiobahn A2401T. Anyway, I'm looking at Ikesound right now and these are the prices:
Infinity Perfect 12: $179
Audiobahn A2401T: $180
(free shipping)
So total of $359 right now. Any suggestions, comments, ideas on what else I should look at? I don't want to use more than a 12" sub since I want the space in the back and I don't wanna go over $400 for both sub and amp.
Thanks the replies up to now!

A little off topic, but how does your system sound? I'm going to have a similar setup with all infinity speakers.. but i'll be using Kappa 60.5c components up front. How do you like the quality of Infinity?

alright back to the origanal post, stick with a dual voice coil sub, they allow for better wiring config. i would get either the jbl 300.1 or the jbl 600.1 prices are 145 and 195. you would need to run these amps at 2 ohms which means you would need the dual voice coil amp. i would recommend getting the 600.1 there more spare power you have the less you amp has to work. jbl amps are made by the same company as infinity.
on a side not, i would look at another brand of sub and amp. i love infinity products but there is a better choice out there if you don't mind mixing product brands.

k series sub 350 rms 140 bucks i would highly recommend this sub, along with tons of people on this forum high output, small box driver, low price and a warrantee. also VERY reputable company.
if you wanted to spend alittle more
0 series sub 500 rms 195 bucks
ed amps 1000 rms @ 1 ohm, 500 rms @ 2 ohms, 300 rms at 4 ohms 275 bucks

Anyway, I'll have to look at the edesign website some more. walight01, should I just stick with a dual voice coil regardless of which sub I choose? If that's the case then I'll re-evaluate my sub/amp selections some more! Woohoo

the alternator wine can come from your power line to your amp is to close to your rca going to the amp, if you run the power down one part of the car, run the rcas down another part. also checking your grounds is a good idea. also what gauge of wire are you running?? as for the sub. the number ov voice coils and the ohms of them all depend on what amp you want to use. if you had a dual 2 ohm sum, you would have to run the amp at 1 or 4 ohms. or if you had a dual 4 ohm sub you would have to run the amp at 2 or 8 ohms. if you have more than one sub, the number of voice coils and the ohms of them matter. so dedide on how many subs you want then choose an amp, then choose the sub to match it
