Youll also get a better launch in the MSP with the stiffer suspension, giving you less squat off the line, which results in loss of torque

yeah...the SRT4 doesn't have a LSD...but it does have equal length half shafts that help a bit....although a LSD would be nice

the p5 turbo would win over the msp simiply cause the boost on on the p5 turbo is only getting 4 1/2 psi boost bump it up to a real 6 psi then you'll really se the power

higher hp acceleration is majorly ruled by:

traction
Tire Size/Weight
LSD?

power
Torque Curve characteristics
is engine properly mated to gearbox?

weight
physics says that all other things being equal it takes 4 times more power to accelerate a vehicle with twice the weight...how is the chassis tuned...less rock means more traction to the fronts

gearing
here's where the mfgr needs to do its homework...what are the rations and what final drives are in each tranny?

my bets right now are on the MSP for what it gives up in weight is probably matched by a better geared tranny with LSD, wider more traction-oriented tires, and better suspension

hmm...okay...LSD = better traction debatable...depending on how well you launch, and how well you drive.

Take for example a Ser 5-speed vs a Spec V

now the Spec V has HLSD...but they both still get similar 1/4 mile times.

Now from the facts that I've read here...

the MSP does the 1/4 mile low to mid 15s.

The P5 Turbo does it in 13.8 (according to what I've read)

Well, I'm just saying that it would be very close. ESPECIALLY with the torque advantage. Braden is running 13.8s with his open dif, granted he is getting wheel spin off the line. I dunno, it would just be close

Jason - glad you enjoyed the spoon
But yea...I'd take that P5 over the MSP any day...just because it looks nicer, has a sun roof, for modding (well warrenty is screwed even if you touch the MSP with other stuff) and the MSP has that evil ECU that limits boost, and checks for emissions (I think)

Then...the audio STILL sucks...so you're gonna replace that anyways...

hmm....then even if you're gonna bypass the ECU and go with a bigger turbo on the MSP, you're STILL gonna do the EXACT same engine work as you would on the P5.

The p5 wins for modability forsure...and for looks, and plus having a sun roof.

OK then.... so it's good we all agree that a turbo Flyin' Miata 2.0ES Protege would beat both a Flyin' Miata turbo P5 and a Mazdaspeed by a couple tenths.

Confused about what you are saying here...The FM Turbo Protege 5 is running six psi of boost. The MSP is 6.9 or whatever.

Sorry, I should have said that Braden (turboge) is running a completely different setup, I just wanted to make a point you can run low, low times without an LSD. He's running a 1st gen with a turbo mounted onto the BP engine (Not just a BPT), and a GUTTED interior.

I should be more specific next time, sorry!

had a long talk with corky about the boost on the p5 turbo and he said that his turbo was only using 4 1/2 psi not 5 or 6
