Turbo kit and other info

I found this while looking at Ford Australia website.

"Engine modifications are substantial and include a Garrett GT25 ball bearing turbocharger, A.R.E. 550 mm x 300 mm x 75 mm air-to-air intercooler, Turbo XS blow-off valve, K&N air filter, UniChip Engine Management System, Autometer Phantom boost and volt meters and a huge 2.5-inch mandrel-bent exhaust system."

People can easily get somebody to custom fit a turbo in any car. Cost is the problem most owners are facing.......

Well, I'm glad he posted the link. It was cool to see the Ford Laser SR2 looks more like a Protege5 than a Focus. It's also nice to see this may be mass produced, meaning OEM turbo parts from a car damn similar to ours. . . higher probability of simple bolt on performance.

Here's an idea, we start a fund to send me to Australia for a vacation. . . oops I mean expedition. I'll find out more about the Laser SR2 Turbo. If the parts cross over without much of a hitch, I'll come back with a few components.

Ford Laser SR2 IS Mazda Protege 5. They call it Mazda 323 Astina in Australia. The 4 door is called 323 Protege.

Butt Ugly Step Child

That really sounds like a sweet setup, but man is it ever ugly with that Ford logo on the front. That car needs a new grill some kind of bad.

Someone needs a nose job.

I do agree that the Protege5 has a better looking nose than the Laser SR2. Did you ever notice how the front of the Protege5 looks a lot like a mustang?

I don't see the resemblance, but look at the front of a Mazda RX-3.

Talking Oldies, but goodies!

Now that we are in the subject of old school imports. This was my 1974 Toyota Corolla with a 79 Japan spec Celica engine (heads by Yamaha), and twin 50mm Mikunis sidedraft.

Ewwww

God I hope they never bring over the Laser to the UnitedStates. I think it will devalue our cars. Any info on whether the focus will be the protege in the next few years or visa versa? I read the faq but it does not really say much.

When I was there, I saw the VIN on Laser and it started with "J" so I'm pretty sure they are from Hiroshima.

i saw that laser 2wks ago at the Sydney Auto Salon..
whilst it does have a turbo setup..i think its more of SONY car (if u know what i mean)..i took a few pics of it that i will try to post up..(its got a different bodykit now)

THE PROTEGES/ASTINAS LOOK MUCH BETTER!!

yep.. u guys are right it is identical except for panels to a P5 or what we call an SP20.

one of our local magazines (HOT4's) is actually building one as a project that they are also giving away..every issue they modify it more and compare results etc. (check out this link on the laser..hey apparantly you yanks had a hand in it also!!

RSR PROJECT

they are looking to get 200kw at the flywheel using a Turbonetics T3/T4 with an aftermarket Haltech computer rolling on 18's.

That car ROCKS!

Damn, that car looks like it'll rock . I hope they make a kit available to add the turbo them, or at least some reasonable instructions. I'd love to do something like that to my car.

Thanks for the link, that made my day .
