Ok so I sent my e-mail. I would like to know the differance in the finnal gear rarios of the P5 and the protege lx. I'll try to look it up, but if anyone knows it off the top of their head that would be nice.

I'll keep an open mind untill I see the video.

Oh and QWKsilver what mods do you have? Mine or on my sig.

I havent gotten a ticket for anything over 97mph, and my copy was taken from me when I went to court, along with my $395 fine.

You have the exact same gear ratios as a P5, hughes the trannies are EXACTLY the same, LX or not...the only 3rd gens that got a different tranny was 1.8L and 1.6L engines

Ok, so I saw the videos. First, yes your speedo is off. But to your favor, bigger wheels slower speedo. So I could see 120. But I've been that fast and more a lot of times. Mybe it's just because I'm not in the car but in that one clip with you passing that truck at 100+ he must have been hooken *** also. I ran a Boxster a few weeks ago and when we hit the 100 mark cars doing 70 looked like they were sitting still. But I will say it always looks slower on tape. Sweet car by the way.

This leads me to these questions though. Besides the body kit what would keep mine from doing what yours did? The cars mechaniclly are the same from the factory. Both (mine and yours) have CAI, exhust work (are you running both cats?) you have MS cams but I have a flywheel. Both should give about the same gains hp wise. With the Flywheel I rev a lot faster then stock. I'm running 17s now, so that has to through of my speedo because it came with 15s. But not enough to make up 30+ mph. Some thing has to be way off on one of these cars.
You did say it would do it and it did. I just don't have haith in you speedo. But even if it was off I know now that for shore 120 mph in the p5 is possible.
I still would have like to see you have some one run with you in a car that I know can do it. Then I would publicly KISS YOUR ***! LOL

One last thing. The time it took you to go from 90 to 120, in my Z28 I would have hit 147 and stopped to eat dinner and do it again. LOL But your right, we didn't put a time frame on it.

Still, you have a good looking car that runs way better than I gave credit for.

Only if the profile and width of the tire make the new combo a larger diameter than the original setup...you can run 17's and not throw off your speedo...Although after about 100+ the Protege's speedo is not very accurate regardless if Sedan,MSP,or P5...Get someone you know who owns a crotch rocket to run at those speeds with you, and they can give you a more accurate read of how fast you are ACTUALLY going....About the only way I would believe a mostly stock P5 was going 140+ is with a radar gun readout....it just doesnt have enough ***

just FYI guys. My bone stock MSP bounced off the speedo needle (142-ish) on I-20 coming back from Rev-It-Up in ATL. My p5 has done every bit of 130mph also. The P5 had the obx header, MS muffler and ebay SRI. This was on a realatively flat piece of road.

p.s. My bonestock Contour SVT had a 155mph speed limiter. With my vortech blower it was chipped to hit 165mph. (faster than that of the Z06 that year).

....I doubt speedometer error would be much more than 3-5mph. In most cars, the speedometer only looks analog, but is actually digitally controlled. Examine the back of your cluster, and you will see that there is nothing mechanical about it - only wiring connectors feeding in. I will give the guy credit for going much faster than I expected him to... worst case, that 135 might end up being a few mph less. Still darned fast, if you ask me.

Yea I remimbered that as soon as I saw your post.

As far as I see it the speedometer gets worse the farther you go. I could be wrong, I've been wrong in the past. But then I have to ask why cars like the lotus elise has a top speed of 150? It weighs in under 2k has 190hp 0-60 in 4.9.
This car is set up to hit and run at 100+. I just don't see these cars (our cars)running (no matter how long the road is) with these types of cars. We might have high enough gears to run that high but you need the power to push it. Like I said before, another car with the exact same mods put 128 (or close to it) whp and I can't get past 110. Could it be the front lip of the p5 that allows it to cut through the air better? If I wasn't so worried about the ticket I would have my friend run with me in his P5. Oh well I'm not going to beat a dead horse over it.

honestly guys...when I pushed on my protege(s) it didn't feel like it stopped pulling. What I mean is, that if the speedo climbs even though the car isn't pulling any more it still FELT like it was doing what the dash said. Of course both my "runs" were with stock wheels and tires.

I HIGHLY doubt the body kits on these cars has much to do with it. If anything I'd think the extra weight of the p5/mp3/msp accessories would have a negative effect on top speed.

Let's try no to bash the dude anymore. He's obviously not making this stuff up and we're not being nice to new people who are just sharing. Let's keep in mind why we like this forum better than others.

You asked for video and I got it end of story. Hughes you must be god with your camero. Mac im glad this thread didnt die like the last one we were on, huh? Juddz thanks for being man enough to admit wrong. Prime its always nice to hear from you. No hard feelings to anyone. And if anyone else would like to see it pm your email address, @yahoo.com seems to be the best at letting the video through.

QWKsilver, I'm not bashing you and I don't dought your car. It did do 130 on your speedo. How accurite it was I don't know. But that was still alot more topend then mine and I would bet we have the same hp. What I am questioning now is why is there such a hugh differance between 2 cars that mechanicly are the same. The only differances are the body! Ive ran a p5 and an mp3 and took both of them, and we all had the same mods - my flywheel and header. We haven't done it sence. I guess what I'm have a problem with is that I know I'm faster than stock proteges. I've been racing a good while now, and then I hear people say they can do something with their stock cars that I can't do in my modded car. I can't figure it out, and there is no good explination for it. So I can't believe it. Every thing has an explination (how do you spell that?). And I want one.
This would have been over with if you had a back up car filming you. Hell your obiously not scared of doing it, so do it again this weekend and get some one to film you in their car. Have him show his speedo then your car next to him. If you can do that I'll send you money for a six pack!

So is my jetta speedo off too? I have no explenation (?) for why I can and you cant. You probably could take me in a straight line from a stop. Ive not claiming my car is a "super car" that can blow the doors off anything. If I had somone to run with, trust me I would. I have friends with plenty of power but not much on ***** I guess you could say. Your right Im not scared of the speed, and if I had enough reason (besides continuing to prove people wrong) I would do all this again for you. But how much does it really matter to me to continue to do it? Fuct up car, ticket, jail (reckless driving), hell even a crash. I got the video I promised and proved a bunch of people (i dont even know)wrong, wether you think so or not. Wow cheers to me.
