Hey! I was also shopping for another car, and I really didn't think Mazda. I don't know why, because I've owned 3 RX-7's, including my current '93. So I ended up buying an '02 es Black Mica with 9k miles! I love this car! Anyway, I want to install much better speakers-anyone know specs on the factory head unit?

Thanks, and cool site!

Hello JT and Welcome to our happy little corner of the net, and to our Club. There are TWO BIG fridge'S in the corner with anything you can think of in them...help yourself...of course only take what you can LEGALLY have.

make yourself at home on one of the big fluffy couches, kick your shoes off, put your feet up on one of the tables, yes we are allowed to do that, mom don't care....and take it easy.

oh...btw....every once in a while a food fight breaks out...so you may not want to wear nice clothes here.

Welcome!!

The factory headunit only puts out about 8-10 watts/channel....but you can always add an amp, but what you will need to do is use one with speaker level inputs as the stock haedunit does not have preouts. hop over into the audio forum and do some searches you will find a lot of information....as there have been complete threads on upgrades using the stock headunit....I know...I did that very thing...AND started some of those threads.

welcome again. :{D

Thanks for the warm welcome. I'll check out the stereo threads, and see what others are doing. I really like the head unit, but I know if I start, before long I'll have everything out, and shopping for a complete system. I just finished putting a system in my RX-7, so the wife would probably kill me if I put one in my Protege. But maybe if she didn't know...

I'm off to the 'fridge.
