Hell no, that's an awesome price. I've got $1500 more in options, but I paid $1900 more than you. You got about $70 under invoice.

Speaking of which, it's not unheard of to deal below invoice without taking into account incentives and rebates. Oftentimes dealer hold back is overlooked in negotiations. Dealers pay invoice minus hold back. In a nutshell, hold back is basically a reimbursment from the manufacturer to the dealer for the cost of keeping an individual vehicle on the lot.
ARE YOU SAYING WE SHOULD BE ABLE TO NEGOTIATE OUT THE DEALER HOLD BACK FEE?!?!? That's another $400~$500 saved.
What about the Advertisement Fees?

KInda. You should be able to negotiate a better price if you come in armed with the information that there is a $XXX holdback on the car. I forget what KBB says about ad fees, but I've never paid one.

This is my plan

This is my plan on buying the Protege5

PROTEGE5 CALCULATIONS
--------------------------Me----------------------Invoice
PROTEGE5------------$15088.00-------------$15271.00
Automatic -------------$---720.00------------$---720.00
ABS / SAir Bag--------$---656.00------------$---656.00
Power Moonroof-----$---560.00------------$---560.00
Floor Mats------------$-----64.00------------$----64.00
Destination-----------$---480.00------------$---480.00
-----------------------------------------------------------
-------------------------$17568.00-------------$17751.00
8% Tax---------------$-1,405.44 -------------$--1420.08
CA Registration-----$---200.00-------------$---200.00
-------------------------------------------------------------------
------------------------$19173.44------------$19371.08

and if they bring up HoldBack Price.. I say.. "IT"S ALREADY INCLUDED"

and if they ask for "touch up paint".. I say.. "NO!"

So final price should be $19173.44... does this look like a good way to attack?

New car

I have a couple questions.

Did any of you have to pay for the full tank of gas the is supposed to be compliments of Mazda (as per there web site)??? I was looking at my invoice the other day and noticed that the dealer has a $10 gas charge pre-printed on their invoices. I'm assuming they shouldn't be able to do that and I was thinking about calling Mazda to inform them of what this dealership is doing. It may be small and petty but if they do it on the 1000's of cars they sell there making a lot of extra money.

Also, they charged me an estimated $60 for my registration. I got all of my registration info from the DMV the other day and the actuall cost was $46. Can I go after them for the other $14 or will they claim that is the charge for them doing the DMV work for me?

Thanks,
Sean_'02BLKMP5

I did not get charged for the gas and registration was also $60 bucks here. Actually that was registration ($46 normally) and inspection ($15 normally)... I wonder if that is where they got $60. Just a thought.

kenji4861...

I doubt you can get an out-the-door price lower than 19,500.00 with those options...but I hope you prove me wrong!
