I am glad you posted this....The ECU is my next mod. Hint hint so if anyone comes across one let me know. Kinda hard to get to a salvage yard here

... if one of us should come across a MP3 ECU that is already outside of the vehicle (i.e. at an automotive swap meet, over the web, etc), are there any ways to identify that it is the real deal (and not just a standard Protege ECU)? The MP3 is a rare car, and I would not be surprised at all if most salvage yards don't identify it separately from lesser Proteges.
1) Is there a difference in the appearance of the ECU case?
2) Is there different information on an attached label, etc, like a code identifying the correct calibration number, vehicle vin, etc? If so, how can the lay person know what he/she is looking at?

I wonder what that salvage yard wants for those side skirts and the rear skirt?

juddz, funny you should mention that. There was a recent thread on the forum-that-shall-remain-nameless about this. Yes, there are ECU serial numbers for the MP3:

FS9N-18881
FS9N-18881B
FS9N-18881C

They are on the units.

tyvan, only the rear skirts were undamaged--as soon as it warms up a bit I'm going to grab one of them and see what else is available. It was just freezing and windy the day I was up there, so I didn't really look too closely, but I think there's at least one front sway bar, dunno about the rears. I'll let everyone know if anything is salvageable.
