Hell leave the filter in the engine bay then run a pipe up to the filter so it doesn't intake hot engine bay air. Screw putting it in the fender. Seems like a lot of wasted effort
Exactly! The key is to keep the engine heat away from the filter, hence my suggestion of keeping the stock box. All of those open filters suck air from the engine bay. I have this problem on my Mirage, with it's open filter. Unfortunately, I chopped the air intake box, so I can't undo it. It causes a considerable amount of knock, from the engine heat.

Either get the K&N Replacement if you want to look stock or make your own. You can buy the Mandrel U-Bend from JCWhitney, a hacksaw, paint and PVC Couplings from Home depot, and have one made in less then a day.
I like this idea about making your own "homemade" CAI. If I do decide to try this, what is the outside diameter of the intake manifold so that I know what size inside diameter to get for the pipe? I looked at what JCWhitney carries and I'm thinking that one 45degree and one 90degree bend with a some PVC couplings should be long enough to make a CAI all the way down into the fenderwell. I might also get one u-bend just in case I come up short that way I can just cut it up as needed. This can be a nice Thanksgiving weekend project.

That's what I'm gonna do also. I don't see paying $300+ on something I can make myself. And it will look and work just as good. A guy named Mike made a home made CAI for his P5. Here is the link to it. You can use it as a guide.

His looks damn good if you ask me!
