Timing adjustments

Is it possible to make adjustments to ignition timing? If so, how?

On some cars with DIS systems, timing can be adjusted by spoofing the MAF signal that is sent to the ECU.

Okay, I'll be more specific.

On the 2002 Protege 5, is it possible to adjust the base ignition timing?

On many cars with DIS, you can adjust the base ignition timing to a higher degree then what the ECU thinks it is seeing. This will cause the timing to be increased throughout the rpm range.
