What to look for when buying a 1st or 2nd gen Protege?
Hey gang,
I need to know what major and minor problems someone should look for when they buy a 1st or 2nd gen Protege?
I know that someone should take the car to a mechanic to have it checked out, but is there anything that can come up that is 1st gen Protege specific? 2nd gen Protege specifc?
I saw the thread for the Pro 5, so I'm willing to bet that some of those problems will show up on all 3rd gen Pro's at some time. If there is anything else you can tell me about 3rd gens, that works also.
The better the info the better something I'm working on (top secret) will turn out so any info you can give will help out tremendously. Thanks all...
And sorry, if this stuff has been done before, but the search function really didn't show me much.

Protege Problem Areas
StuttersC,
I know at the local supermarket magazine racks and book stores they always have a used car buyers guide in one form or other, usually by multiple publishers. These buyers guides should provide excellent information. Many actually let you know what the specific problem areas are for each model year. I checked these books for some info on my car (94Pro) and it is always a recommended year.
Also try going to www.consumerreports.com if you are looking for the best detail of problem areas for a specific model. You have to subscribe (min for monthly access to their site is $3.95 a month). Hopefully this info gets you pointed in the right direction.
