Question 91 Protege vs. 03 Protege

Hi, everyone.... This is my first post. I'm amazed how much useful stuff I've found on the 'net on Proteges. This place looks like the most fun.

Until a week or so ago, I had a '91 Protege DX, 5 speed stick. I bought it 4 years ago for 2 Gs and put another 70,000 miles on it...Chicago to the west coast twice. It was a bare bones car to get me though school but I kept getting more and more impressed by it. So the new car is a '03 ES, sunlight silver, with a (naturally) 5 speed stick. It's great! Fabulous. The more I drive it, the more impressed I am by it--so solid! 1500 miles on it so far....I love driving it, I love taking corners, I love tearing out of the toll booths, I love the way it comes down from 60 to nothing with no fuss, no muss.

I was always bored by first gear in my '91. First gear is just to get it moving. Second gear, though, was a joy....5 to 50 in a blink. 2nd gear is one reason I re-upped with Protege. The '03 seems a little less quick in 2nd. Am I imagining something here? Does it just seem so because I no longer get that heart-racing shake and wobble from the wheels I was getting toward the end of the 91's life.

Third in the '03, however, keeps me happy...40 to 80 in a blink. I'd just like to have two blinks, one in 2nd and the other in third. Any thoughts?

Hello there Artfuldodger, and Welcome to our happy little corner of the net, and to our Club. There are TWO BIG fridge'S in the corner with anything you can think of in them...help yourself...of course only take what you can LEGALLY have.

make yourself at home on one of the big fluffy couches, kick your shoes off, put your feet up on one of the tables, yes we are allowed to do that, mom don't care....and take it easy.

oh...btw....every once in a while a food fight breaks out...so you may not want to wear nice clothes here.

Welcome!!

Gald to see/hear you are enjoying your new Protege....we all seem to.....of course....that is why we are here. :{D
