I would beleive that the Injen CAI is superior because you would get cooler air from where the filter is located. IMo the JKL is not a true "ram air" because it is block from the air stream by the rubber stripping that is located on the hood in front of the intake port.

 

yeah i see what your saying,,,but i would move that gasket to get better air,,,if that's all it took,,,

but i see what your saying,,,and i'm starting to lean more to the injen just cause it is proven,,,,but if some one does a comparison test that would make it for sure

 

Also, if you move the rubber and you have a torrential downpour, whos to say you won't ingest a ton of water? Withe the Injen intake located in the wheel well, and the Bypass valve installed, you won't have to worry about the occasional puddle you approach. I don't know if I said this before, I had an AEM CAI installed in my '92 Accord with the bypass and I thought it was great.

 

is the injen cai a short ram intake or a cold air?

 

I checked it out on my car and I'm a little confused! Where does the fresh air accually ever reach this system. The inlet seems to be mounted right behind the hood seal. There are no holes or paths for fresh air to even reach it. Good concept needs different design.

 

the injen is a true cold air intake that plumbs into the fender,

and like i said i'll can that gasket if i have too,,,,already built my own grills (if i can get a digital cam i'll post it) to better the air circ.

 

exactly what i'm planning to do. i'm gonna have teh grille modified so that more air would come through the front.

it seems that this intake just improves on the stock one. the injec cai is probably better.

 

Ok,on the pic below, the red circle shows the stock air opening. It is about 1 1/2"-2" x 6" or so, and that allows normal airflow. the rubber seal actually seals to the top of the stock airbox here to allow an opening, the rest of that rubber seal hits the top of the radiator support. The green circle shows the front seal that hits along the leading edge of the grill and headlights. This should keep most water and large debris from being ingested. Search for Traveler's intake mod and you will see about cutting holes in the top of the grill for greater cold airflow without a direct opening on the front to rain, etc.

My reasoning on choosing this intake, I didn't like the way SRIs suck engine bay air and I didn't like the long pipe and resulting low end/throttle response loss of the Injen. So I thought the JKL was the best compromise if not better than either.

Also, as to the quality of the filter, I don't know, it seems ok but it could be kinda cheap, but at least a couple of people on the other forum are trying to find K&Ns that fit, more to come on that later...

my search skills in google must really suck since i can't find the traveler's intake mod. could you point me to the right direction? also, do you think there's a way to modify the gasket to have more airflow through there as well?
