G5M-R Trans vs G25M-R Trans

I was wondering if anybody knows if there are any differences between the G5M-R transmission in my 90 GT and the G25M-R Transmissions that were used in 92-94 1st Gens?

If they are interchangable, is there any difference between the G5M-R on my Protege vs the G25M-R that is found on the V6 MX-3's?

Thanks

Rick

I've read on the MX-3 sites that the K series motors bolt right on to the G25M-R transmissions, I did a cross reference on suspension parts and found that the V6 MX-3 share almost all the same subframe of my 90 GT.
Ive also read on MX-3 site that some folks are even running the MX-6 transmission on the MX-3's.
So with the swap, is it possible to plug the KL motor right on to my G5M-R trans???

That would be too easy. What do you think?

I understand that there is a different bell housing, but I guess what I was getting at here is that, if I were to use the MX-6 Transmission with the KL motor, clutch etc.. Would it connect up to the protege shafts seeing as the G25M-R from the MX-3 are using the same suspension subframe?

What I am trying to do is take MX-6 donor car and use most of the parts from that. Am I just looking for trouble using the MX-6 trans? I have read that, in order to use the KL motor I would need an MX-3 subframe. But if the MX-3 folks are able to use the MX-6 trans why couldn't we?

I was also thinking that instead of buying an aftermarket clutch to harness the power of the V6, I would just use the one from the original car.

Since some of you have noted some problems with the G25M tranny when going past 300hp on a turbo Protege engine, do you have any suggestions to make the tranny stronger? I was thinking of utilizing the BPT all-wheel-drive tranny and converting my protege into a 4WD...but of course that will cost a fortune. So what can one do to improve or strengthen the G25M tranny? Any thoughts?
