Clear up BPT, ECU, Harness etc for swaps in SE 1st gen
I am playing around with the idea of a BPT swap... I am just starting my research...... I did a search and read some threads... but..... nothing was a solid confermation of what im looking at....
if anyone could help ,
Im lookint to swap out a shot 1.8LSOHC from my 92 SE
I think a BPT would be great, do I need to chainge harness?? or can I get by and just chainge ECU only?
What do 4door protege's run 1/4 with Auto Tranny and the BPT motor, at say.....around 10psi
what info can you give me on this swap...
thanks in advance guys...

yup,
I was pretty sure I would have to get the ECU from a car with the BPT motor...
I wasnt sure what the Auto tranny can hold ....... im not looking to boost the motor like mad..... Maby just stock PSi and an intercooler....
Would some one be able to explain why the ECU is such a big deal? if you upgrade the fuel pump, get a fuel pressure regulator, do a boost controler ether manual or electronic....
I mean...... not all cars have this ECU problem when boosting a motor..... why does the protege seem so dependant on swapping ECU's?
Thanks

hummmmmm
with an FMU , and other hop ups and so on.... I should be able to do quite well at around 7psi area.....
The big thing will be that the car is AUTO....... and I dare not repeat what a friend of mine has just told me about mazda's auto trannys.... LOL....
a 5speed tranny should not be all that bad.... but..... then im looking at a whole other world of investment..... but this project can take as long as it wants.... its no rush..... its just an extra haslte to have to convert your car from auto to manual
hummmmm......... a 14sec 4door protege seems like a really fun sleeper

I'm running my gtx engine with the n/a dohc ecu but i'm also using piggy-bags and i can go has hight has 14 psi with no trouble at all. Okay it's not the perfect way of doing it either the real gtx ecu or a stand alone ecu would bring the car in an other dimension but money for this year has ran dry so it going to wait until next year then haltec e6k here i come.

how much boost do you think the BPT can take safely? without any internal work? or how much is stock boost?
I only have the SOHC ECU, but.... will ether track down the GTX or order it with my motor, or do like you with the DOHC or get the haltec
thanks

its posible to run dohc ecu with gtx motor u would need fmu. wiring a gtx is litle tricky, gtx ecu has a knock sensor and controler for that also if u get gtx harnes its shorter that dohc harnes.its posible to modify gtx harnes to fit in in 1g but u go to re wire couple wires.its not hard as long u can read wiring diagrams. to modify dohc harnes u would need to add some wires and move some wires at ecu plug. gtx ecu works nice for dailly driving and gas milage is not bad. im runing gtx ecu with Apexi S AFC and wepon r fuel preasure regulator and mine boost is set to 18 psi and car runs smooth.

so you Modded your DOHC harness, to wire in the GTX ECU? or you used GTX ECU and HARNESS? .....
Have you taken her to get dyno'd?? or have you ran your car at the track??
