Motor Swaps for 2nd gen?

Alright, I'm a newbie here so be gentle if this has been covered before or repeatedly...I read the FAQ and I'm beginning to realize I got the lowliest dog of the Proteges available, the 2nd gen with the 1.5 motor(98 dx).

I was toying with the idea of a motor swap. I'm no stranger to swapping motors, I've got an Hybrid CRX. So in looking, I've found quite a bit of info on 1st gens, 3rd gens and a whole stew of stuff for the Mp3/P5...but nothing for my '98.

I would even settle for the 1.8 that was available but I haven't found a resource that outlines what is needed. I see the transmissions between the two have the same designation, so that might solve everything from flywheel to the axles.

But what about motor mounts and wiring differences between my current Z5-DE and the BP-DE. Is there something better than the BP-DE?

I'm really looking for just a decent power increase rather than ***** out racing machine. So something relatively easy and cost effective. Trying to squeeze anything out of this dx motor just seems like a waste of time.

Any help or point in the right direction is surely appreciated...

hmm

Sorry, I guess I posted this in the wrong forum as the moderator moved it here.

I gotta tell you though, I'm not to impressed with this board's level of traffic and response rate. Can't anyone make even a suggestion as far as a good write up or site with info on ANY Protege motor swapping?

I am learning more and more that the 2nd gen is a piece of crap for swapping..

I thought the 1.8L BPT motor was just a simple swap but i was so wrong when i had to rebuild my tranny..

Its because the 2nd gen 1.8L proteges uses the F-series tranny simllar to the 1.6LDOHC and 1.8L SOHC in the older proteges..

The BPT engine requires the G series tranny which the bell housing may not clear the 2nd gen protege under carraiage...

Therefor for you only swap available is the 1.8L with tranny...

I even considered the KLZE swap that works so well with older proteges but it doesn't work either..

All the good engines are mated to G-SERIES trannys and that my friend is why the 2nd gen protege sucks

alright

finally, someone who has an idea that's willing to share.

Okay, I'm realistically limited to the 1.8 BP-DE. With both the Z5 and BP having a tranny designation of F25M-R, using my DX tranny is a possibility?
