I have the RPF1 available. Three sets only. They are 17,7.5 +48 and weigh nothing. Pm me if you're interested.

With regards to the spoon wheels I will have to look into it further. I'm sure they make a 5 lug for the Type R and S2000 now that I think of it. It just didn't come up on the Spoon USA site. I can look into the japan one I guess. The type r fitment would work provided they are not hubcentric.

The Enkei tarmac will only come if we can order 40 wheels. so I don't see it happening.

Whattabout the WRC Tarmac Evo ... haha yeah right
Perfect fit but no way I can afford those.

I'll check with a couple local shops about the RP-F1 to see what their pricing is like, as much as I'd love to give you business ... free trade works for big business, but not us citizens.

Okay Rishie, so let's see if I have this straight: The wheel I'm interested for stock-class autocrossing on my forthcoming Mazdaspeed Protege is the Team Dynamics Pro-Race 1 in a 17.0 x 17 50mm offset with a 5 x 114.3 bolt pattern. Correct? Any idea on the price?

And for Rishie or anybody who autocrosses, what tires do you recommend?

Thanks,
Jason

Are you looking for street tire class, or R-tires?

For street tires, Falken Azenis (a little taller at 225/45-17) or possibly BFG KD (expensive).

For race tires (R-tires), either Hoosier (about $200 ea) or Kumho (about $135 ea) are the best choices. 225/45-17 would probably work, although the new Kumho Ecsta V700 is available in a shorter and wider 235/40-17 that might fit (depending on clearance between strut and tire).

I second Davard's recommendations on tire brands.
Some people running the Azenis this year were beating people on r-compounds. Kumho V700 are very nicely priced and sticky .. another option is the Toyo RA-1. If you would like to spend considerably more money, you can look at Hoosiers, the new Michelin Pilot Sport, or Pirelli PZero Corsa (but I've never seen a shop that advertises the Pirelli r-compound tires).

About size... can you really fit tires that wide (235) on only a 7" rim? (too lazy to look up specs at the moment) .. You could consider going with a 205/40 which would give you a gearing advantage due to its smaller size. ( our autox courses in Ontario are quite tight and I found myself in an akward rpm range for most of the season. smaller tires could help get into higher rpms in 2nd gear instead of over-revving in 1, yet bogging in 2 )

205/40 is gonna be too small for a 2800lb (more with driver) car. And autocross tires don't obey the same rules as street tires. In stock classes (where wheel width is limited), people do all sort of silly things. I for one mounted 225/50-14s on my stock 14" x 5.5" wheels (front only). Some of the little Hondas (such as Robert Carpenter's ES-winning '85 CRX Si) have been known to put 225/45-13 Hoosiers on stock 13" x 5" rims. You just need a little more pressure than if they were on the "correct" rim size. And tire mounters just hate you.

And the difference between the 205/40-17 and tall 225/45-17 isn't that large in race tires. About 3mph in 2nd (60mph vs 63mph). There is a fairly big gap between 1st and 2nd. I don't imagine there are too many autocross courses where first will be useful in the Mazdaspeed Pro. (The ITRs will do 45mph in 1st...the MP only 35)
