up front tinting and the fuzz

anyone here in alberta caught any grief from the police for tinting on the front windows?

i'm thinking about tinting and i'd like to go all the way around b/c i don't like the look of only doing half the car. however, it's not worth it if the police are really focusing on it.

i wouldn't go too dark. maybe 35%.

any thoughts or experiences?

thanks.

I've seen plenty of cars running around with really dark tint on the front windows. Technically, there shouldn't be any tint ahead of the driver's shoulder.

That said, the main concern with tinted windows in the front is officer safety. If he/she (ie. the officer) can't see in and see the driver at a traffic stop, then that is a bad situation in the officer's mind.

So, I'd say do it at your own risk. Legally, they can make you take off any tint on the driver/passenger doors, but if the tint is light enough, most officers probably wouldn't care.

Sorry....don't think I've helped out too much....basically, it's do at your own risk.

I personally don't know anybody who's been pulled over for having tint on the front.

thanks

i saw lots driving around today with tint up front. it looked good and i could still clearly see the driver and all. 35% should be ok i'd think. hopefully. hmmm. we'll see how brave i'm feeling.

Worst case is that they make you rip the tint off right there and give you a ticket. Good thing about that is the ticket shouldn't have any demerits associated with it (non-moving violation).

I think it looks better with tint on all the windows, but I value officer safety above style....sooooo.... no tint on the fronts for me!

I just got my fronts tinted two weeks ago with 35%. I have had cop cars right beside me at stop lights and no problems. However, I have not been stopped as yet for anything so who knows.

I've seen cars with stuff so dark it looks like paint plus I am sure I've seen cars with the windshield done. Now that's crazy!!

By law, in Alberta window glazing on the glass beside or ahead of the driver, even clear, is not allowed.

I had 51% tint on all my windows in my old car for about 5 years. In that time I received two $25 tickets and finally had to remove the tint.

Like one of the previous posts said, most cops will not care but there are a few that do.

a few years ago i had an old jetta with 30% tint in front and 15% in the back and never had any problems in Calgary (even though the bylaw said no glaze on front windows) i was pulled over for pretty much everything else but never told anything about the windows.

then one trip to vancouver i was pulled over for speeding on the coquihala and given a ticket for the windows! and its not even illegal in bc if your car isn't registered there!! they said that since i was from Calgary and its illegal here they could give me the fine! i never even stuck around long enough to fight it, just paid it all when it got mailed to me.

btw, first post here... i'm in Calgary and have a 2002 white Protege5, 5speed with the mazdaspeed exhaust and rear tint only :)

well, i went with 35% on everything (except the windshield of course). i didn't do the moonroof.

looks very very good. i doubt i'll get hassled. i've already pulled up beside two squad cars.

fingers crossed that i don't have any trouble down the line.

i got it done by "mr. detail" down in shawnee station. i'm happy with the work and i got a great deal.
