Question tinting

hey guys!

I am sure that there have been many discussion on tinting but I just had a quick question. What % darkness do you think looks the best on a black 2k2 p5? Does the film tinting look cheap? Should i go with the chemical tint?
thanks

If you wouldn't mind posting a link or info on the chemical tint, I would like to read it. Quite a few posts have been made about tint. I personally think it looks good, and if you go to a quality installer you will get a lifetime warrenty against fading and peeling.

Stocker.

Humm, I have never heard of any aftermarket tint NOT being the film type.

The darkness is something you will have to decide based on personal taste and your local laws.

I just had some 35% black tint all around (which is the max legal here in WA) done on my car yesterday. I am not a big fan of super dark tint and I like how it turned out. Has a lifetime warranty against discoloring, cracking or peeling. See pics over here:

Hey man, I checked out your pics and are you sure that isn't 65% tint? I thought tinting percentages worked backwards, meaning that 65% tint allows 65% of outside light to pass through. A low percentage tint would be quite dark... Your windows look about as dark as the windows on my Cavalier, which are 65% tint. Just curious. If I have it backwards, please let me know

Distrbd: I think what nramsey has is 35% cause I had 35% on my chevy pick-up installed about 5 months ago and it looked identical to that. Not trying to put you on the spot or anything, that is just what it looks like to me. I may be wrong though.

With louisiana laws i will probably be going with the 35% of the front doors and something a little darker than that on the back glasses on my pro 5.

I had 20% tint done all the way around and then went back 2 days later and had the 2 side windows up front lightened to 35%. It looks good and you can hardly tell the difference between the two with the whole works done. If I could do it again I would do 35% on all the windows. Really this is a personal thing and a legal thing ( I really shouldn't have the side ones done anyways). Just a hint, when you look at the small section of display tint it will always look lighter than when you get the whole car done. Take 2 pieces of tint and put them back to back and that is really closer to what the finished product will look like. Don't shop by price, shop by quality of the product ( make sure it won't turn purple after a while), and ability of the installer (like do they take all door panels off). Make sure the company has been around for a while so if you have any problems you can go back, as some of these detailing shops don't last too long.

Just some helpful hints !! Good luck !

Yep, what I have is 35%, it's the max allowed in the state. They had a sample of 50% at the shop on display and you could barely tell anything was there. Kinda decieving, I could see why you would think that. I think the stock glass is probably in the area of 75% or something...it definately does have SOME tint to it...

FWIW, lots of people like to go ahead and tint the rear windows darker than the fronts because the law allows it. I don't really care much for that look as I like a nice constant look around the whole car. Just my opinion, but something to think about...

nramsey did you have to drop off your car to speedy glass? Essentially how long did they take to install?

Yep, dropped it off around 9:30, and it was done around 2. Not sure if they were working on it the whole time or not...I kinda doubt it.

I had mine done at speedy for 200 taxes in cnd. so like 150 am. I did 20% all around. one darker than legal in ontario, but I figured I am too old to be picked on by the cops. Other than the tint the car is stock.

Dude - that stuff is seriously dangerous at night. Very tough to see through. Should be okay on rear windows, but for the front windows, you gotta either be crazy or not drive at night to go with 5%.

I went with 20% all around (I, too, like the "consistent" look and hate two different shades of tint on the car) - totally illegal here in NY, but it's completely unenforced also (much like our hand-held cell phone ban - what a joke. But I always "bud-up" (earbud, that is)). I LOVE MY TINT. It's the first car I ever owned that I got tinted, and I will always have tint now. That and remote-start are two things I'll never want to do without again.

is it that bad, i mean i've seen it it's pretty kool. i don't plan to get my fronts tinted, b/c of state law. but i can't say i've driven with 5% before. is it that dangerous?

Just at night, I think. Really blocks your vision.

You know the deal though - your car, do whatever you want. I think it looks amazing to have tint that dark, but I just think it's really hard to see out of - especially on any unlit roadways.

During the day it's not so bad, I guess.
