tinting
hey guys!
I am sure that there have been many discussion on tinting but I just had a quick question. What % darkness do you think looks the best on a black 2k2 p5? Does the film tinting look cheap? Should i go with the chemical tint?
thanks

Humm, I have never heard of any aftermarket tint NOT being the film type.
The darkness is something you will have to decide based on personal taste and your local laws.
I just had some 35% black tint all around (which is the max legal here in WA) done on my car yesterday. I am not a big fan of super dark tint and I like how it turned out. Has a lifetime warranty against discoloring, cracking or peeling. See pics over here:

Distrbd: I think what nramsey has is 35% cause I had 35% on my chevy pick-up installed about 5 months ago and it looked identical to that. Not trying to put you on the spot or anything, that is just what it looks like to me. I may be wrong though.
With louisiana laws i will probably be going with the 35% of the front doors and something a little darker than that on the back glasses on my pro 5.

Yep, what I have is 35%, it's the max allowed in the state. They had a sample of 50% at the shop on display and you could barely tell anything was there. Kinda decieving, I could see why you would think that. I think the stock glass is probably in the area of 75% or something...it definately does have SOME tint to it...
FWIW, lots of people like to go ahead and tint the rear windows darker than the fronts because the law allows it. I don't really care much for that look as I like a nice constant look around the whole car. Just my opinion, but something to think about...

tinting doesn't take that long. it wouldn't be profitable when they charge $90 to do a whole car. at least in FL you can find it that cheap. up north i've heard of $200+ for tint take a road trip to FL and use the money you save on tint for gas and disney world

I went with 20% all around (I, too, like the "consistent" look and hate two different shades of tint on the car) - totally illegal here in NY, but it's completely unenforced also (much like our hand-held cell phone ban - what a joke. But I always "bud-up" (earbud, that is)). I LOVE MY TINT. It's the first car I ever owned that I got tinted, and I will always have tint now. That and remote-start are two things I'll never want to do without again.

Dude - that stuff is seriously dangerous at night. Very tough to see through. Should be okay on rear windows, but for the front windows, you gotta either be crazy or not drive at night to go with 5%.

Just at night, I think. Really blocks your vision.
You know the deal though - your car, do whatever you want. I think it looks amazing to have tint that dark, but I just think it's really hard to see out of - especially on any unlit roadways.
During the day it's not so bad, I guess.
