quick question. how does wagner go about regriding the cams. dont they have to make the lobes bigger. how do they "add" the extra metal to the lobes? this might be a bad question, but i really do not know how they do it.

Wagner doesn't do anything to the cams but sell them. Crower is making the cams. I also do not know the in's and out's of cam profile making so I just prefer to leave it to the experts.

oh ok....list is correct then....maybe this will make up your mind:

The RACE NA cams should be used with raised compression and a raised rev-limiter. Also, there will be a complete valve-train kit available after this GB ends. Right now I'm only selling the cams since that is all I have available. I guess I should clarify that only the Stage 2 NA and TURBO cam are available now...the RACE versions will be out a few weeks after these hit.

Hey matty, wich cams should I use if I were to use n2o? Also, I don't think I'll be able to send in my current cams because this is my daily driver. Is there any why around this? Thanks.

I would say stage 2 NA cams are the way to go for a N20 application. The only way race cams would be wise is if someone has raisied compression or engine management to help control the idle and so forth.

FWIW, I'm going to have both sets of cams....the Satge 2 cams are for street use and my track days on the bottle! The Race cams are going to be used when I get my new shortblock from Wagner and the head and intake back from Extrude Hone. At that point I'll be able to run the race cams and I should be putting down about 250hp at the wheels WITHOUT the N20.

mrpopnfresh, remember that your stock cams will be sent in after you install the new ones, and then you'll get a refund on the core charge. At least that's how I understand it from earlier in the post.

yeah thats what I heard from the horses mouth also BUT something may have changed....

On protege5.com Nick's own thread said he's going to be GBing them for $490 a set as opposed to my $475....so I'm still $15 cheaper, but he may have changed something as far as his core charges go....several people there were asking for brand new cams not re-mans from Crower......I'm waiting for official word

On that thread he mentioned that they had some billet stocks availible. There was also a bit of concern over the reman process. Nick soothed everyone's nerves and mentioned how the hardweld process may actually be better than grinding from a blank.

As for the hard weld. . . in order to increase lift or duration on a stock cam, metal must be added (via the hard weld process, although other companies may use inferior methods) and then grinded down to specs.

yeah, this is what he mentioned to me also. When he spoke with Crower they assured him/us that this is not a cheap nor half-*** job. The cost of new billit cores would take the price of the cams right out of the reach of most buyers.

I personally have yet to see a cam lobe cause any problems....I've seen a cam GEAR slip and cause a head to explode.

I for one am not worried what Crower/Wagner sends me....it's the same stuff they're going to be using in their 500hp protege...(wink wink)
