My 2000 Protege LX & CR-X

I have mostly been a lurker here, spying on you all for the NSA and stuff. Decided to post some pics though.

"The Family-mobile"

Mainly stock, except K&N filter, spoiler, wheels.

I <3 1980s cars that are loaded full of technology for the time. It looks great!

Protege looks nice as well

Wow, I hardly ever see that color on a Protege! Nice CR-X, too.

The digidash is really cool, but the JDM trip computer (center dash above stereo) is the uber rare piece. Trying to keep the car period correct, the motor is actually a 1st gen ZC with vacuum advance. It has a crinkle coat red D16A1 valve cover since the original JDM valve cover was damaged in shipping, along with the vacuum advance, and throttle position sensor. The LS is a potent swap though. I have a friend who has a LS in his 87 HF CRX, and it is, well, a violent ride.

As far as the Protege, right now being the primary family hauler, it is mostly stock. It has clear corners, Wings West replica OEM spoiler, K&N panel filter, and Proline Alloy wheels. Eventually, I may install my fog lights I have in the basement, hook up a cold air intake, upgrade the rims, drop in a header, wire in DVD for the kids of course, and paint the interior trim. We actually wanted a silver or black Protege, but the dealership had a ton of blue ones, and offered us a better deal. Of all the small cars we tested at the time (1999-2000) the Protege, even in LX form had the liveliest best handling suspension. My 99 Sentra handles like a constipated pig, and my inlaws 2000 Civic EX handles better than the Sentra, less betterer than the Protege. Only has 44k on it since new, and running Mobil 1 Synthetic with the V6 filter. It used the same filter style as my old Escort GT, so I figured it would work, and it did. I really like the Protege, it's been a great car, which is why it is babied, along with the Rex.

I love the term "rex" --on here if someone uses it I assume RX-7 or RX-8.. on some other sites one would assume WRX, but yeah CRX works too..

I'm still in awe over the general condition that CRX seems to be in.. very nice work

Very high tech. It has an 8 bit digital processor ECU. I think that's like original Nintendo power there. But it cuts a 15.3 1/4 mile and gets 38mpg when cruising highway, so it must do ok.

Good luck finding one. Most have rusted away. Mine was rust free when I got it in 96 or 97, but now since having kids it's been neglected, and has some rust forming around the rear wheel well. As of this winter, it's getting mothballed for a while, until I get the money for a full resto. The Mugen wheels are coming off and getting restored as well. The Mugen wheels are really strong. For a while I was trying to find a set of silver 15"s to disassemble and paint the spokes metallic midnight blue pearl to match the paint for the Protege.
