It shouldnt be about it you "get why they do that," because they did it anyway. Like I said before, the reason people do it is to strive to have the most unique car. Not to have a car that everybody else has. Though I might not like some of the cars out there that are like this, I still give them their props for their creativity and craftsmanship. Thats what it boils down to. What I dont understand is, what you guys think the difference is between going to look at a carshow with crazy looking cars, and going to a museum to look at crazy looking paintings or artwork. Its the exact same concept... my 2 cents.

If I were to choose a unique car I would choose a car that both looks good and performs, like a BMW M3 SMG, which is unique enough. I mean Protege's and Civics are all over the place, so how are they (or any variation thereof) unique?

one major difference between a show car and a museum art piece is, art pieces usually contain multiple layers of underlying intentions, and are meant to evoke certain types of emotions by the viewer. To me, all show cars have is the 'wow' factor, after which it's really just a protege with wild body cladding and a matching wild paint job. There's no DEPTH to the work after the initial shock.
another difference is the level of originality. In general art, ALL of the stuff on a piece of work is ORIGINAL, all coming from the brain of the artist and created through the hands of the artist. A show car, beside the paint job, rarely uses 'original' items for creation. Most of the time people just throw expensive OFF THE SHELF parts/equipments onto the car and call it a day (maybe paint it a different color ), and god forbid all those cliche phrases/decals/stickers that they stick on their car, sheesh!
(wow, I'm actually using stuff learned in art history classes back in college, how about that! )
I agree they're 'original', but those proteges are no where near being a true work of art. More like a rolling (if it even moves) product demo/advertisement

hmmm, i think the protege show cars are for enthusiasts like us. and for those who wonder why they did it, the answer is simple: because they can. as for museums vs. car shows, it's actually the same thing. we may not be attracted to paintings as we might not appreciate it, but for us cars might be a whole different story.
f'real tho, those are pretty cool looking, and it gives ppl ideas of where to go (or not) with the looks of their rides.
