It shouldnt be about it you "get why they do that," because they did it anyway. Like I said before, the reason people do it is to strive to have the most unique car. Not to have a car that everybody else has. Though I might not like some of the cars out there that are like this, I still give them their props for their creativity and craftsmanship. Thats what it boils down to. What I dont understand is, what you guys think the difference is between going to look at a carshow with crazy looking cars, and going to a museum to look at crazy looking paintings or artwork. Its the exact same concept... my 2 cents.

If I were to choose a unique car I would choose a car that both looks good and performs, like a BMW M3 SMG, which is unique enough. I mean Protege's and Civics are all over the place, so how are they (or any variation thereof) unique?

Are you honestly trying to say that those pro's in those pics arent any different than a stock pro, or any other pro you gave seen? When was the last time you saw a 2nd Gen with clear tails? Or when was the last time you saw a 2nd gen with a body kit other than a mazdaspeed or erebuni? When was the last time you saw a 3rd Gen with puzzel pieces for a paint job, and one piece missing to see the engine bay? If all that stuff isnt unique, then I have NO clue what is.

quite a bit of difference.

one major difference between a show car and a museum art piece is, art pieces usually contain multiple layers of underlying intentions, and are meant to evoke certain types of emotions by the viewer. To me, all show cars have is the 'wow' factor, after which it's really just a protege with wild body cladding and a matching wild paint job. There's no DEPTH to the work after the initial shock.

another difference is the level of originality. In general art, ALL of the stuff on a piece of work is ORIGINAL, all coming from the brain of the artist and created through the hands of the artist. A show car, beside the paint job, rarely uses 'original' items for creation. Most of the time people just throw expensive OFF THE SHELF parts/equipments onto the car and call it a day (maybe paint it a different color ), and god forbid all those cliche phrases/decals/stickers that they stick on their car, sheesh!

(wow, I'm actually using stuff learned in art history classes back in college, how about that! )

I agree they're 'original', but those proteges are no where near being a true work of art. More like a rolling (if it even moves) product demo/advertisement

Sorry, I didnt really go into that deep, but I do see what you were saying. The word "original" was the word I was looking for.

I trying to say they are not unique. Slapping parts made for all many cars like Altezzas or those clear brake lamp assemblies does not make it more unique because alot of people's ride look the same.

Thats the thing though, nobody has clear tails for a 2nd Gen. those are the FIRST pair I have ever seen.

hmmm, i think the protege show cars are for enthusiasts like us. and for those who wonder why they did it, the answer is simple: because they can. as for museums vs. car shows, it's actually the same thing. we may not be attracted to paintings as we might not appreciate it, but for us cars might be a whole different story.

f'real tho, those are pretty cool looking, and it gives ppl ideas of where to go (or not) with the looks of their rides.

LOL, OK you asked for it so here it goes.

1) It gets reactions like overplayed words like you have used waaayyyyyy to often in this one post, not to mention the thread...... SICK. laf can you descirbe it with anything else? Last time I checked "sick" was a word that was kinda cool like 4 years ago with skaters

2) Overzealous graphics

3) Retarded wings that serve no functional purpose

4) Hydros.....heh only cool on like a 64 impala or some big old hoopty

5) Retarded paint schemes, and one guy is missing a chunk of his hood. Serving the purpose of.......?

6) Far too aggressive lookin kits provided near zero driveability, not to mention lookin stupid

7) Gaudy interiors that would even bring sight back to Helen Keller

8) LOL this guy is a hardcore tuner with a "custom" sterring wheel on the passenger side (waayyy euro) yet its an automatic. Uhh dumbshit much?

9) Bling bling chrome wiper blades

10)License plates from a foreign country when he's in America

11) Subwoofer enclosure blocked from optimal performance buy an array of batteris for his hydros

12) Umm ridiculous window banners preventing full vision of the road

13) Stupid *** dual tail pipe configuration coming form the middle of the bumper

14) The guy with the sitcker that says "Lower than U" is a ****** tool

15) jesus do I have to keep going? I'm getting carpal tunnel..........

Last time I checked these all of these cars were in Barbados. When did they become a part of the U.S? I need to start watching the news more often.
