i kinda like the small size of this forum compared to some of the others. primarily because there are less jerks who post smart-*** replies, less garbage threads to sift through when looking for info, and i have yet to see a thread asking some female member if she's hot and if she has a pic.

Yeah but we still get the same stupid questions like "WHERE CAN I GET AN INTAKE FOR MY 19__/200_ PROTOGE??"
Or "WILL THIS POWERCHIP I SAW ON EBAY REALLY WORK"??
I really wish people would do a search.
The info is there.

well, as OWNER of clubprotege, i can certainly say that the downtime was one of the major reasons for departing, but not the only one.. the straw that broke the camels back, you might say. months and months of searching for even generic terms such as "323" would bring back 5 search results. it was very annoying, and it appeared to us that there was no desire to fix it, as it stayed that way for months. there we problems from the moderator/admin side, where banning users or doing anything from with in the admin control panel was impossible to do as it was corrupted..... then, the downtime, days, sometimes weeks at a time.. it just seemed to us that the owner did'nt care.

i'm not trying to start any ****, as payment for this forum comes out of somebody's pocket, for sure, so they certainly care in some regard. but caring whether the forum exists, and standing up for a platform as an enthusiast for that particular chassis are two different things altogether. one is love, one is business.

the last straw was when the forum went down for two weeks straight.. no word from the owner besides "i'm working on it, the board was hacked".. no backup was put up, and we were all kinda left hanging like.. wtf?
when we finally got upset enough to leave and start a new forum, this one came up the same night. after i added all the moderators over there that wanted to be added, the owner here did'nt want those people moderating here.

then of course, we had the poeple that came over from there to spam this place to holy hell, and pissed off this owner to the point where he was in "ban-mode" and even mentioning the "other" club got deleted. any comments regarding downtime just got deleted. any reference to downtime at all was restricted, and anyone that did'nt disavow the new board was either demoted from moderator, or banned from the board entirely, no matter thier previous contribution.

i did'nt come here to start ****, as i hardly ever post.. but you asked why? that's why.
but hey, it's happened before, even though it's not meant to be argumentitive in any way, this post will probably be deleted too.

by the way.. i spoke to the owner about the possibility of making amends with the eventual, long-term goal of possibly re-combining the community. the person who was in charge of the forums for all the time concerned was, for all intents and purposes... "fired".

we did'nt see eye to eye on the direction of the community, and i felt it remaining in our best interests to remain seperate.

i won't go into that any further though, as that WOULD start a disagreement.

from a person that has been here since the first day. my reason is that im working on getting a different car. so my protege will not see anymore upgrades and will become my everyday driver. i will soon be selling what i have left for it. some 2000 ES rims and rear factory like spolier.

i will check in from time to time. but good luck to you all. anyone have any questions about the rims. email me at bryan.g@mchsi.com

I won't quote proboost's whole post.. but I have to say I think it was a great post.. a good summary for those who weren't there..

At one time.. the edmonton group was the most active on this board.. but the eventual straw for us (as far as I know) was not being able to have a member of our local club moderate our own clubs sub-forum (that decision was changed AFTER we left). So we made our own home.. and few visit this or the 'other sites' anymore at all.

Bivery gave a great solution.. the board war has gone on long enough.. and frankly I think has wrecked and continues to wreck the protege online community.. the majority of active members on this board have left, some to go to other sites but a great many just drift, like myself.. poking around once in a while.. but not really active anywhere..

If some form of merger doesn't occur, it proves that there is more interest in having 'power' than in the community.. and if that's the case.. more of the pclub crash will inevidibly occur again (whether here or on the 'other' boards). That would be too bad..

I'd also like to comment, that since this thread is still open.. it shows a lot of maturity (that was previously lacking) on behalf of those who run this place now.. maybe there's still hope...

"1. I'HUA'MAZDA spake to Zarathustra, the All Pure, saying: Explain these things to my people. Zarathustra said: What shall I tell them, O I'hua'Mazda?

2. I'hua'Mazda said: My people are united..."
(I'hua'Mazda is the persian god Mazda is named after)

what could it hurt to give a union a try, maybe an apology or two and a few bruised egos, but we'll regain a community.

(when we recombine lets use clubpro's opening clip its better than the yellow P5, just a suggestion)

hence the name of my Blaze red SQ car.
Ahura's Flame.
i understand the principles, and the need for the community. my devotion and passion for the BG chassis and other Protege chassis will NOT be overshadowed, or left to "tagalong" under the shadow of the RX-7.

i was laughed at when i was told this community was powerful. i was told we needed to be attached to the rx-7 forums to stay viable, that our community could never support itself. now i have a mission. the protege is very well capable of sustaining itself independantly, instead of being tucked in the coattails of some mazda "megasite" (which if you did'nt know, are the plans for this forum)..

we don;t need the rx-7 forums connection to survive (as was repeatedly said). we are just as prevelant, and if one just person, fired up and dedicated to the platform, represents the steadfastness of owners to the aftermarket, we will have the aftermarket we deserve and desire.

i'm there to prove a point ,and represent what i believe in. in 4 and a half months, we're 1,100 members strong. i believe Protege owners are standing up for thier platform, for the simple fact is evident that the forums are active and prosperous.

The Flame of Ahura. it is my reponsibilty now to carry the torch for her understimated, i have Ahura's Flame, to light up the night and guide us into the next. we are'nt going anywhere, and we're not coming back.

we have evolved. stronger. better. and very soon, bigger. as a community.

This is one of the first threads I have read on this forum. I registed here after buying my 2003 P5 a month ago, wnating badly to get a hold of one of the last P5s after seeingthe new Maza 3 wagon. This isn't quite what I was hoping for. My husband frequents Miata.net quite a bit and we both lurk on the RX-7 forums. I hope this place doesn't actually take the downward spiral that this thread indicates it is taking. I was impressed by the format and the amount of information on this and was hoping for a good forum, kind of like Miata.net. I guess, as all of you have said, time will tell.

Ihave been here since day one ,The whole idea behind these groups is to share knowledge ,yet it turned into a gruge fest .people tried to force their own views on everone else ,so I left for awhile .when I came back it was better .
Some of you get tired of people posting "what aare refered to as silly questions and the reply is do a search "why not just answer ,remember you were once in the same boat . This is a site to exchange knowledge not put people down .
It is unfortunate ,people once burned are unforgiving and wont give things a second chance . It will take time ,things will improve .

yeah i have been around for a long *** time, i started on protegetech, and moved to protegeclub early on,

i would say the main reason for the split was the fact that we all felt like we were being ignored, and that protegeclub didnt care bout us, and thats a big part of a club, or a community, you need to know that the owner of the board is gonna help you out, and try to fix things that go wrong, we didnt have that.

when the site kept going down, we were all getting fed up, i know for me it was making things hard, i was in the middle of organizing the 2003 kent meet, which was about 2 weeks away, when the site went down, so no one knew if the meet was still gonna work out,

then when we all asked why the site was going down, and if there was a problem, we got ignored more, and got excuses,

the site would come up for a few hours, and be down again for days, we lost TRUST in the site, so dave made a decision, make a new sight, a new sight with an owner who cares, an owner that actually ones a protege, thus clubprotege evolved.

the more active members signed up early and donated to make sure dave had the funds to stay up, we were being loyal, and making sure this sight wasn't going to face the same demise as proclub.

and from the looks of it, i think were doing just fine.

those of us that moved to clubprotege moved there to keep alive the community that we had created based around these cars. we have friendships and bonds that we just took with us to a newer, more community friendly board. its something that we all have a feeling of ownership and a more direct involvment with the site. makes it feel a lot better. and NO ONE can deny that we are doing awesome.
