Just drove my friends beater '86 RX-7

He got the thing for $200, what a deal! Sure, the tranny is pretty bad (third gear synco is almost gone), and the motor mounts are shot, and it vibrates really bad at higher speeds, but it's fun as hell!

I don't know much about RX-7s, but it's an '86 (apparently the first year of the G2s) with a 13b engine I guess. I kept getting on this kid because he's had it for a while, and I haven't seen it yet. So tonight at work he brought it, and handed me the keys.

It's always funny when your friend yells at you for not redlining his car and complains when you're 'only' doing 80 (while getting shaken to death, mind you). I wasn't trying to beat it, but he kept telling me to wind out the gears until redline... Who am I to say no? : )

All in all, it was really fun, and I wish I could have snagged the thing for $200, it would make a PERFECT beater/project car! Just thought I'd share my experience with you guys. (I love driving other people's cars, for some reason it's really fun for me. Maybe I should become a valet!)

sweet dude, those are truely some fun cars!
I hear ya on likin to drive other peoples cars, its just fun to see what is out there to compete with and just to drive a diffrent feeling car.

last car i drove that wasnt mine was my friends pos (but good looking and running pos at that) 1988 Mecury Tracer (not great or anything but quite funny) it has a 1.6 liter 4 banger with a 5 speed.... that car has guts for bein so small and power-less, needless to say it only has 60k miles and he got it for 2k (rip off if you ask me, but oh well)... very easy clutch, but it promotes bad shifting techniques from what i can tell, just from how it ingauges...

anyway... we both should become vallets, haha

Hey don't be dissin' the powerless 1.6l 5spds!!! hehehehe

My car is not fast by any means, but I just love to drive it. I can't wait until I get some power in it, it's going to be great!

I just got word from my friend today that he got a type-r engine in his '94 civic HB. I'm not familiar with the engines, but apparently it's a 1.6l developing somewhere in the high 100HP range. He told me about 190, but that seemed a bit high. I guess it's original JDM, so it very well could be producing that much. I think he also got an intake, header, and exhaust on, so he should at least be near 190HP with those mods.

Anyways, I can't wait until spring break so he can take me for a drive. Maybe he'll be a pal and let me drive it??? hehehe... I can only dream!

No, it's 1.6L not 1.3L. Even though its only 1.6L, its pretty fast I'd say. I got one of them in my 323 and I've beaten some hondas and other cars with it. If its all about HP and liters, then you guys are people I dont understand. Everything is a factor, including car weight, and TORQUE. Torque is much better way of telling how powerful your car is. My 323 has more torque than horsepower, so it pulls pretty good.
