Insurance Question...

Some of you know.. I had an accident last year.. where the other party got caught lying to the police, on their police statement, and to both insurance companies (giving them all different stories) on various things concerning the accident..

Here's the long winded recap for people who don't know or remember:
---------------------
They went to the police station the day after the accident and tried to have me criminally charged with failing to remain at the scene of an accident, and failure to report an accident .. I had gone straight to the police station (exact same one) after the accident and exchanging information with them the night before.. I talked to a cop about the whole thing and showed him the information I got from the other party.. so uh the charges were dropped.

They changed who was injured 3 times.. and claimed on their police statement that 2 people had been treated at the hospital.. but were unable to produce any medical records of any hospital or doctors visits..

They had a shady inspector claim there was $3000 dollars damage to their $1000 car.. my insurance company demanded they take their car to a legit inspector who found $0 damage to their car.. (I estimated my speed to be about 3km/h.. the inspector of my car said I probably wasnt even going "that fast")

The police decided that I wasn't following to close, I wasn't failing to stop, wasn't driving dangerously.. not even paying undue care and attension... I did not get any tickets (and I asked 2 or 3 times!).. sort of rare for a 100% at fault rear ending ... (the cops knew they saw my shiny new car and staged the accident, but the stupid laws got me stuck with the at-fault)

That's the readers digest of it.. this stupid crap went on for months..
---------------------

My insurance was up for renewal.. so I called to find out what my new rate would be.. (it was supposed to be absolutely insane).. and it was about 30% lower than I expected.. apparently, theres a novel of notes on my file about the accident.. and because of the "bizarre circumstances", the insurance company is rating me as if the accident happened three years ago..

I've asked around quite a bit and nobody has heard of something like this happening with an insurance company.. so I thought I'd ask here since I'm quite curious how rare this situation is .. as it would be a good indication of how truly screwed I got.. (I'm pretty sure this is like an 11 or 12 on a 1-10 scale of screwed over.. but it could be higher!!! )

So has anyones insurance company done something like this? Or has anyone ever heard of it happening?

Dawn

All I can say is be glad it was lower than you thought and that they consider it 3 years ago... My insurance is high for a good couple more years 'cause of the same type of accident where I rearended a saab which didn't have their brake lights on at the crest of a hill ( so I didn't know they were stopped) anyway i pushed that swede under the back of a blazer.... minimal damage to my car but totalled the saab and shattered out the back window of the blazer... So I'm fucked for a couple years. Insuranse will screw you 'cause they're good at it.
