Car Insurance Question

I have a question concerning car insurance that maybe somebody on the forum with more knowledge of the laws can answer for me. My family has 2 insured cars but 3 drivers. There is no designated driver for any particular vehicle so the 3 drviers are always alternating vehicles. Does each vehicle need to have all 3 drivers insured on it, or is it sufficient that the vehicle itself is insured under the owner's name? One insurance agent once told me that its sufficient for the vehicle itself to be insured, but I'm not sure if this is true. Can anybody provide some insight on the matter please?

Thanks

I beleive that all three drivers need to be on the policy because they are under the same roof. Some companies will let it slide some will make you sigh affidavids that nobody else is going to drive the car.
My girlfriend totaled my car awhile back and she wasn't on the policy so they didn't want to pay. Luckily the other car was found at fault.
But my new insurence doesn't care. It all depends on the insurer.

Call your insurance company. They will explain it all.

I believe the way it works is that each car has a 'primary driver', and the other drivers are listed as secondary drivers. If it's two parents and a kid, usually dad takes one car, mom takes one car, and the kid isn't the primary driver of any car. That usually works out the cheapest.

But like I said, call your insurance company. The will give you a quote and find the best arrangement to minimize the premiums.

I also think that even though your insurance rates depend on the car you drive, that the insurance goes with the driver, not the car. So if you're ever going to drive any car any where any time, you need to have insurance.

Laws vary by state, though, and you should call your insurance company.
