fine i will.

but at least I didn't publicly tell someone that their marriage was never meant to be on a public forum....

what I AIMed you was my private opinion just to you, nobody else knows about it...

anyways, I'll drop this whole thing before this turns into flame war...

Nope, not in that case. Those are not opinions, but directions, and thats not appropriate.
all he did was postively reinforce what the guy was already saying about his own situation. really no reason for you to react so strongly to it.

unless one assumes that since/if you've annouced your plans, you're catching all sorts of "it's too soon" ****, which is unfortunate.

everyone's different. but the guy was not out of line at all.

Whoa, whoa, no need to get ugly. No need to apologize MazdaSpeedPro. Maybe I should have been more clear on the original posts. You only reacted how I may very well have reacted to what info was available. Lets just all get along; I am not trying to provoke a war.

Marriage is not easy and anyone who is thinking about getting married has to know this; look at the statistics. One in three marriages will fail. Love and committment are gambles. If there was a sure-fire formula for how long one should wait, everything would be easy. I do agree that if you are great friends first, love will fall into place.

I have been a cynic about marriage for a long time, but I obviously agree with it in my case or I wouldn't have taken the plunge. Here's why:

11 years ago, I was engaged to be married to someone that I had been with for 5 years; we started dating in university and got engaged about a year after school. We both had good jobs in our repective fields, I was madly in love and couldn't wait to get married and spend the rest of my life with this person. THREE months before the wedding (invitations mailed out and all that stuff), she cold feet (or whatever) and called off the marriage just like that and walked away. I was devastated! And it took me a long time to get over it (and I did). So I tended to tread lightly for a long time. I eventually travelled all over the world, changed to an even better job, and got back into motorcycling. I have been all over North America on 2 wheels. I eventually met and married my wife and have absolutely NO regrets in life. The only problem with rediscovering myself was that I spent a lot of time on my own, without sharing my life with anyone else in a real serious commitment. It's like trying to teach an old dog new tricks. So, yes I can be a cynic and sometimes come across as sarcastical, but that is who I am and have always been. My wife knows that and lets me know if it gets out of hand or annoying.

I feel bad that everyone is at each others throats for commenting on my opinions. This is a great forum, open to all reasonable comments about Mazdas, cars, etc, etc. And opinions are like ********; everyone's got one.

By the way, back to the original post; I have always thought ( for myself) that at least a year and a half or two years was my sort of guideline to really get to know someone enough to know if this is it.

BTW, this will be my last post on this topic so as not to perpetuate the argument.

Marriage

I think it's amazing how EVERYONE has a story... it just boggles my mind that there are A LOT of people in this world and they have similar and disimilar experinces in life. Anyway, I come from a small town in Washington (nuclear town) and you get to know everyone here. I found my fiance here and sure we had our problems a little while ago, we broke up, saw other people, but we were unhappy, it's been recently that we've talked seriously about marriage. Her parents support us, my parents we haven't really talked to yet but they'll know soon. We're going to go to counseling before our marriage and that may sound like failure before even starting. My opinion or "*******" is that marriage is a proverbial battle, and you should never enter battle without a plan... I think marriage is sacred and not to be messed with. Just my two cents!
