Cool, I look foward to heading out to Washington. 2 months for a dry season thats gonna suck.

I think the whole brain washing thing really depends on the person. I have friends that are in each branch and for the first week or so back they were all "brainwashed", but then got back to normal. It was probably the beer and liquor that helped.
All I know is I am gonna give it my all and do what I'm told when I'm told. I hope being raised by a SGT. helps

dude your friend was probably just trying to act like billy badass in the Marine Corps while he was home...trust me I spent three years with a Marine Corps Grunt Battalion on not one marine in our whole battalion(which is about 1000 or more marines) acted like your friend did...

I was a Machinist Mate as well. Where'd you go to prototype? I went to Idaho Falls.

I was enlisted in the Navy for a while then went off to the Academy. I planned on going USMC after the Academy, but got out a semester short of graduation.

USAF!!!!

I'm a Survival Equipment technician and I love my job. I've only been in for almost 2yrs (E3) and I must say the quality of life the Air Force has to offer is the best out of all the other branches. Well , thats from my perspective...from all the posts-forts...I've seen (ppl I've talked to). My days of hard labor consists of ........ nothing backbreakin' , strenuous , or minimum wage....... gotta love the military till they send you off into the unknown w/ strangers and a bomb hits ya. I was an SP (cop) for a couple of months... and I've gotta say that cop stuff wasn't the best job in the world. All i did was sit on my *** w/ an M16 and 120rounds and shoot the **** w/ ppl , but how many times can you shoot the **** without that getting old ? YOU GET THE POINT ... During these times of increased security .. If the post your going to...doesnt have sufficient manning...you could face 12hr (I hope whatever theyre giving you as a bonus is worth it) shifts...workin' weekends...so on.. btw I love my job I maintain survival equipment... pack parachutes ..repair etc..

What ever you choose.......make sure your willing to spend atleast 4-5yrs doing the same routine....every freakin' day. I myself ... wouldnt throw myself into the cop career field... to each their own though...goodluck and be safe

<Hubby is USAF. (mp3Steve) Kinda surprised he hasn't run across this thread yet himself lol.
Ah well, I like being married to military... or at least I LIKED it. Now I find out he's got to go to Korea for a year without me. So, yeah. It's kind of sucky right now. When he gets back though we might end up in Japan or Alaska though, so I guess it's all good I'm just going to miss him REALLY badly.
I had no idea so many ppl on this forum were military/ex-military. Pretty cool.

Elmendorf is the one we'd go to if we ended up in Alaska, right outside of Anchorage. I think Alaska would be beautiful, and plus I want to learn how to snowboard lol...
Steve seems to think Japan would be better though b/c of the cheaper parts for the mp3
I just don't want to base the next 4 years of my life on parts for a car. I love my mp3, but jeez!
oh well... Guess it's time to start learning how to speak Japanese ...............

but mp3angel, once you're in japan you won't be worrying about MP3s, you'll be worrying about Silvias, Skylines, and Familia Sport 20s!!

I have a 5 year enlistment. I am prepared for the same old thing everyday, at least I hope so. I want to go into law enforcement when I get out which is why I picked it. I figure if I can somehow pull a diploma out of it and not screw up on anything maybe I can go to the Fed. level of law enforcement. 12 hr shifts would kinda suck...but alot of the local agencies around here do just that. Thanks for the "goodluck"...and I am always safe

Mp3Angel, sorry to hear your husband has to go away for a year, He'll be back before you know it.
