Tech Operating question

Test drove a 08 mazda 3 and have a question on the workings of the tach. When I stomp on the gas) the tach swings all the way up (high RPM's) much faster than the speed indicator. Is this normal? At what RPM do you hit the power band with an automatic.

The tach is somewhat slow to respond, same with the speedo if you look closely. It's damped for multiple reasons i'm sure, one is to keep the electronic control from needing to regulate as well, another is to keep the needle from jiggling with vibration or when going around corners etc...
Any other questions after your test drive?
