Identifying disconnected connector on radiator hose

Hi all,

I've been on the market for a used Mazda3, and yesterday I inspected one of the potential ones in my area. On this 2007 Mazda3 i, I noticed that one of the electrical connectors leading away from the two coolant reservoir hoses was disconnected, and I could not find where the other end of the connector was.

Can somebody help me identify what connector this is for? The owner claims (and this is true based on my test drive) that the car drives fine either way, but surely the connector has to have some function?

To help with orientation, I took this picture from the passenger side of the hood. The mazda emblem is the engine cover. Sorry for the blurriness, I've uploaded super high res in case it helps.

Thanks, and happy new year!

ya know, my daily mazda3i... also has that. i noticed when trouble shooting an "insufficiant coolent temp" diagnostic reading. never figured out what it was so i said screw it drove it anyway and all is fine. check engine light went out after radiator flush. however i never noticed this before my niceday 3i engine removal. never really did
looked either.

Same jazz on my '04 3 s. I always figured it was the connector for the "ambient temperature sensor." I have read on a few forums that it is what the "Narnia" connector is for. I might try it out, but I'll let you know if it is!

My bad, bairice, from doing further research it looks like the plug you have pictured is the hood latch alarm sensor. Or something to that effect. If your 3 has a key alarm this is probably the answer. The ambient temp sensor is not available on 04-05 3's, so I apologize for that. I hope that helps!
