What you want is a chrome trunk garnish. My protege came with it(I think it is standard for Canadian models). You might want to check with your local dealer or you might find something on ebay.

I found that part to be a nice location for my "zoom zoom" decal.

from the parts manual, it appears the part is called a 'lift gate garnish' and the chrome part number is BK2H-50-810

I too was looking for information on the lift gate garnish.

To order the chrome one (listed color is: "bright") is $120CDN from my local dealer. I dunno, that seems a bit much for something that is strictly an embellishment...

Anyone else get better prices on this part?

And BTW, it's NOT standard on all Canadian models.

I haven't removed mine, but from looking inside the trunk lid, it appears that you just need to remove a nut on each end and pop some plastic clips in the middle.

Have you tried removing yours?

When you find out how much it will cost let me know. I have been wanting to do that to mine also. It will go with my Altezzas.

I picked up one of these pieces in chrome from a local auto wrecker for $75CDN (no tax).

That's better than the $137.40CDN (incl. tax) the dealer wants but still...

I am so weak...

I do now.

There are four 10mm nuts and one plastic clip to remove. Two nuts are on each end of the part, on short studs. A third nut is located on a long stud dead center of the part (watch your hands - I nicked myself on the sheet metal) the fourth nut is also on a long stud, but this one is shared with the passenger side license plate light housing. The plastic clip just needs to be squeezed with pliers while you pull the piece outwards.

Note that the seal and the rubber washers make for a snug fit, you will have to wiggle the pull the piece a bit (start from the passenger side) to get it to initially "pop" out.

I took this pic when I swapped the piece out, but I haven't been able to post it until now (Photoshop install was munged).

I think it adds a bit of elegance to the back end...
