Glove box will not close

So today on my way to work I was pulling out of the convenience store and there was a manhole cover my front right tire went over and as I went over it I was accelerating in first gear and it is raining so it spun and wheel hopped and made 3 loud bangs. My glove box flew open and when i looked back the manhole and pavement were not the same level so I think thats what made it thump so hard... Not a real big deal but I didn't want to wheel hop.

So I reach over and try to close the glove box and it goes all the way up except about an inch from being closed it has resistance like there is something wedged in the door in the way. So I stopped and looked and looked but I cannot see anything stopping it from closing. I was able to push it closed but it took way too much force(and more than it used to). I tried to look down on the bottmon of the door but cannot see anything in there. MAybe something got bent because it opened so hard(plus I have some cd's and stuff in the door which made it heavier. Any ideas guys? Maybe I can take it apart and see if something looks bent or damaged? maybe the hinge itself? Thanks, John.

$5 says something is wedged in there and you just didn't see it. things like that have happened to me before.

Thanks for the reply dude,

That's what i thought also. I can just barely get a finger down on the bottom part from both sides and cannot feel anything, and when i open the passenger door and look down in there with the box open I can see right thru down to the floor, so it doesn't look like there is anything in there. Do you know if it's a big job to take the door off? I'm gonna go have a look now and see what it looks like..Thanks for any help man. John.

Ok Dude, you owe my $5.00 cause there is nothing wedged down in there. I'll be expecting a cheque in the mail, haha.j/k

So the only explanation I can see is that the hinges(plastic) bent a little because of the force from when it flew open. When I went out just now and opened the box(I had forced it closed yesterday) and then closed it again it wasn't as hard as it was yesterday so whatever it was, it is bending it's way back to normal from being closed? That's kinda messed up but that's the way it is...I'm biting my tongue to not jump on the "Mazda sucks" bandwagon....I'm starting to ramble so, I gotta go..

thats the weird part esteban, it didn't hit hard enough to make me worry about anything being bent or broken and it still drives like a rocket ship with no wobble, pulls, noises or shaking. But somehow the stupid plastic glove box door is trying to **** me off. I've had problems with the glove box kinda. Does everyone else have to pull the handle, close the door and release the handle to get it closed? I can slam it closed but (again with the plastic) the plastic on the dash that the little latch on the right side goes into is marked up from the previous owner slamming it closed.. Does that make sense? Basically if I close the dash by just pushing it closed, it is damaging the plastic part that the latch goes into, but on on the right side only, the plastic on the left side is perfect, no marks or damage at all...

(this smiley has no reference except that he's a happy little guy)

You shouldn't have to hold the latch open to get it to close. If you're under warranty I'd take it to the dealer for replacement.
