fuel

Hi Guyz,

Iam new to this grp. Iam from Bahrain and I have purchased a Mazda 3 sedan 4 manul/5 auto transmission. Would like to know a better way to maintain the car to get a better fuel efficinecy. I posted a thread earlier and Olestra advised me to maitain good air level on tyres...

Iam not a race driver..my trips are more of work/home/shopping...

Any other advise, will be helpful.

Cheers,
Prashu

Last tank I got 477.2 kms and filled 49.2L = ~10.3 L/100Kms. Terrible. =)
That was my worst tank but take into consideration the bad traffic I had that week and warming up the car.

I have a 2004 3 five door and am lucky to get 18mpg with it between city and highway driving. Sometimes it is worse.

My car is stock without modifications of any kind and I don't drive aggressively, pretty sedate to be honest.

Yes, I know how to calculate mileage and have talked to the dealer and Mazda. The response I got was essentially that they don't care about low mileage.

It is really pissing me off to only get 190-200 miles per 12 gallon fillup. If I wanted mileage like that I would go back to an SUV.

MT 100, if your 3 uses that much fuel in normal driving, there has to be something wrong with it. Could be something simple like the thermostat stuck open, fooling the computer into thinking the engine is always cold. Could be a bad sensor -- there are lots of them. Is the check engine light on?

No check engine light on the car. I have also never had a four cylinder engine that is this bad either. Matter of fact my V6 Blazer was better.
It is going in tomorrow morning actually but I am not hopeful. I have discovered that Mazda service really doesn't have a lot to do with customer service.

Well the Mazda dealer looked at it today and said they can't find anything wrong with the car. To be honest I didn't think they would based on past service experiences.

At this point since the fuel mileage is so low and Mazda won't do anything about it, I am car shopping for another brand. My first, and last Mazda.

alright, i did a little math. (fuel tank capacity (14.5 gal) multiplies by the car's fuel economy, and heres what i got....

3i manual: max 406m/ city..... 507.5 m/ highway
3i auto: max 377m / city...... 493m /highway
3s manual: max 377m /city..... 464m /highway
3s auto: 362.5m /city..... 449.5m/ highway
